HGTV's Design Star-2011 Edition

Design Star is now on Mondays at 9. Is there any interest left in this show(it actually started last week)?

what happened to Clive? the new hostess sucks.

Why add a "host" that adds nothing? She doesn't do anything that Vern hasn't done in the past.

I'm watching - but I don't feel like commenting :)

the Kitchen challenge was a decent one alright.

Glad Mr. "ugly purple bench in kitchen" got the boot. WTF was he thinking?

Cathy's got to go. I'm rooting for Karl.

Cathy is a pain in the ass. Will be glad to see her go as well. Her "staging" was so over-done it made me laugh.

I can't see any of these people, except maybe Mark, as a tolerable host of a show. The fat disgusting red head's voice is so grating.

Agreed.

I'm glad Cathy got the boot this past week. I guess this is one wedding she designed that won't be in a "major" magazine. :)

Re: HGTV's Design Star-2011 Edition

Cathy really can't work as part of a team, and I'm sure being a designer you have to work with teams of people. Architects, Engineers etc, she looks like it's her way or no way.

Glad she's out, agree about Mark - I like him

Of the final contestants, Mark is the only one I would watch. Glad there was a double elimination last week.

This season is a big improvement over the last. I almost didn't watch this one after the disappointment that was last season. They shouldn't have let the english guy go but at least Vern isn't trying to host and judge this season. I think the desingers are better than last season too. I hope Mark wins it all.

Producers: "We need another dull mainstream 'Design Star'. No problem. Let's pick the chick with the annoying voice."

I won't be watching her show. Zzzzzzz.

Hate to be superficial but Meg looks like a bloated pig in her too tight outfits. And, yeah, her voice is beyond annoying. Not sure how you overlook those things and hand her a show, especially when Karl, Mark and possibly a couple others were more talented.

qft
+1

The worst part was, my kids saw her pilot and said they liked the idea of the design crimes and wanted me to setup a recording to try it out. Then after the show they previewed her actual show and the kids said forget it, they ruined the only thing she had going for her. Now it's just another show like any other with a host we didn't really like.

I actually liked the finale, in how they showed them working with producers, but to be honest I've only watched Antonio's show, and I forgot that Emily won her season.

I didn't follow this show, caught bits and pieces, but watched the finale and thought Karl was the clear winner, a better aesthetic and better performance.

And while the outfit she wore in the finale before the judges was fine, some of her outfits made her look really bad. How does that not play a part?

I actually really liked Emily, she has a personality unlike most of the other designers. Her show though was just a disaster. I'm not sure what they were going for but doing a room 3 times in different design styles was just overkill.

Re: HGTV's Design Star-2011 Edition

It seemed clear that they were picking Meg's idea for a show, rather than her. It was by far the strongest premise out of any of the contestants, so as long as she wasn't a disaster, she was destined to win. But now it sounds like they're not even using the idea to its potential. Stupid.

They actually changed the format of Emily's show for the second season which started about a month ago. Now they just do one look which merges the different styles. Huge improvement.

I've seen a couple non-winners get shows, wouldn't be surprised to see Karl or Mark land something.

I enjoy Antonio's show and like you, forgot all about Emily (until I saw a commerical for her show).

Overall, my favorite show on HGTV is "Curb Appeal". I like that team.

I hardly ever watch any of these shows(HGTV DS, Next FN Star, etc). I just like watching the competition to see who gets the prize.

I like some of the house-hunters shows (when the people are just "average Joes' like me. I have not interest in watching millionaires looking for a third summer home). Also like the shows where they spruce the house up before selling.

yeah, I never watch the design shows, just the house-hunting shows.
