^ That's one thing I have noticed about the books. I think Martin might have written himself into a corner with so many different plotlines that he is struggling to try and tie them back together and work toward a conclusion.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

Jace lacob has impressions of the first 3 episodes!

@televisionary: The first two episodes of S2 #GameofThrones are very, very strong indeed. Some spellbinding, heart-pounding stuff. I've missed this world.

Episode 3:

Another fantastic episode of #GameOfThrones, written by @BryanCogman. Brutal, beautiful, and glittering in its malice. Loved. Saving 204…

Ken tucker review:

And I'm here to report that my lack of homework in no way prevented me from becoming enthralled with this series all over again. That's a testament to what adapters David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have accomplished in whittling down and reshaping Martin's novels for weekly TV. It's difficult enough to hook a viewer like me, who resists sprawling, noncontemporary narratives; it's another level of pop culture wizardry to make such storytelling seem so vivid, so vital, and just plain fun. More tweets from lacob:

Ep 204 of #GameOfThrones is fantastic: majesty, mystery, and a dance of shadows. An amazing installment filled with brutality and wit

Jace Lacob ‏ @televisionary

Now I'm kind of sad that I have to wait another month for a new episode of #GameOfThrones. But the first four episodes of S2 are fantastic.

Spoiler-free thots on S2 E1: The mastery & confidence seen at end of S1 on display. Wonderful visuals, acting, graceful pace. Also, LOVE

directing by Alan Taylor, he just GETS this show. Incredibly pleased with how he captures both the epic & personal. #gameofthrones #GoT

HBO released some photos of the new characters, here's our first good look at Ygritte

Here's the 22 min special that recaps S1 and previews S2 that airs this Sunday.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

Nancy dewolf of wall street journal shares her thoughts:

For those among us who instinctively recoil at the sight of leather jerkins, cut throats and castle keeps, "Games" may take some getting used to. But the cinematography, like the cast of largely British and Irish actors, is magnificent. Each week the story unfolds like a tapestry, its intricate stitches slowly creating not just a scene but a whole world. It's a world to get lost in, but not always easy to endure. Because the good die as often as the bad, and happy endings are only for fairy tales.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

Does anyone else's Directv guide not show Game of Thrones starting this Sunday? My guide has Game of Thrones on HBO Latino, but some movie on HBO itself?!?
I went to setup my season pass and it's not there

Yeah, same here. Wasn't showing up for me, either.

DirecTV's programming guide has been kind of screwy for me lately.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

It is showing for me. I've had DirecTV for a little over a week and the guide has been screwy. I wish it would show "new" or "repeat" like every other guide I've had. It does tell you the first showing date if you actually go into the detailed show info at least. But I've set stuff up to only record "first run" and it records old episodes sometimes as well, which is annoying.

Digging Ygrite, I could see how
Spoiler:
Jon Snow would violate his oath so many times with her. I wonder if they'll keep her older than him as in the books? She looks to be the same age as the actor playing Jon, and they seem to have conveniently aged all of the younger characters a bit.

I can sort of remember the guide being a little wacky right after I got DTV; also when I have to get a new receiver. I think it might take a week or two to get the guide working properly.

You also might have to go in and change a general setting so it only records first-run programs when you have it record every episode. I sort of remember having to do this when I upgraded to a HD DVR.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

Raves from Variety:

http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117947298?refCatId=32

"Thrones" creates such a rich visual feast -- replete with plenty of gratuitous nudity and blood-letting -- as to almost obscure its fundamental storytelling pleasures, which are as much a mob drama as anything else, having traded bullets for broadswords. By that measure, this really might the closest spiritual heir to "The Sopranos" HBO has delivered since the show's notorious whiteout.

"Game of Thrones" will always face an extra hurdle in that some will resist its fantasy elements, but under a niche-oriented business model, who cares? For an army of loyalists, HBO will be must-have TV each time the show raises its banner.

And in pay-TV terms, that is power.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

Just an FYI

If you subscribe to Directv, you can watch HBO Go on your XBox 360.

Keeping this Game of Thrones related, you can watch season 1 on there (if you didn't already buy the BD) and catch up.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

Another rave review, this time it's Hollywood reporter:

http://m.hollywoodreporter.com/revie...-Martin-304869

Game of Thrones is so much more than a genre series, a fantasy epic. It’s a series that doesn’t need to feel dramatically inferior up against the likes of Mad Men or Breaking Bad, Justified or anything else.

It’s quite a feat, this amplification of the achievements in Season 1, *and -- though it may be early yet in Season 2 – should ensure more Emmy recognition, genre be damned.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) Season 2: Casting, News

Finally, a show that deserves praise gets it. (I'm looking at you, The Walking Dead).

This and Mad Men will tide me over nicely until Breaking Bad returns.
