Oprah's Farewell Show -- 5/25/2011

Really?? The biggest show of the TV season and no one is talking about it?

Only in Oprah's mind.

Love Oprah. I'm actually going to miss her show.
That said, the finale shows were a bit over the top.
Hearing Madonna tells us that the only LIVING person she admires is Oprah made me laugh out loud. Madonna must live a very quiet life.

But, hearing about Oprah giving over 64,000 kids a education made me tear up.

Her Season 25 Behind the Scenes show on OWN is actually very good.
I highly recommend the one w/ Jennifer Hudson.

I've only watched Oprah a few times through the years, but I know she's been a powerful force in entertainment and has done a lot of good in various areas, especially the book world.

It's also weird to remember the days when Oprah would be on TV when I got home from 7th or 8th grade. I graduated from high school 15 years ago.

I remember getting mad over one episode she devoted to the dangers of kids becoming addicted to Nintendo.

As noble and respected as she is now, don't forget that her show started out just like the other daytime trash shows like Springer and Povich

No. Oprah came to Chicago to take over a show called "A.M. Chicago," which was a lot more like Regis & Kelly than Jerry Springer. That show became the Oprah Winfrey Show due to her smashing success.

And her success was based on the salacious material that once was the rule of daytime talk.

But she still did trashy subjects in the beginning. In Chicago, her show was kind of a joke. "Lesbian transexuals... next Oprah" is a typical promo you would see.

Yeah, she did episodes about housewives who have sex with their pets, Satanists, Neo Nazis/KKK, coke whores...just about every trashy subject imaginable. Her primary completion in the early days was Phil Donahue.

I don't get that network but I read about it. Oprah wasn't going to get her way about Jennifer's weight loss whether she wanted to talk about it or not. On the actual show, Jennifer kept referring to someone from Weight Watchers to see if it was OK. That episode was strange in that sense.

I watched Oprah more these past years than I probably ever had. TiVo was a great tool to erase any topic or show I had no desire of watching.

Good for her. The show has made her a billionaire.

You can't argue with her success for these last 25 years, but she is such a phony and why I hate shows like this on regular TV. Thank god we don't have to see her and the audience scream like idiots when someone like Tom Cruise comes out, or her totally phony interviews with someone like Jennifer Aniston. It's called pre-packaged TV (most other talk shows hosts are just as guilty), and it is so predictable.

;)

Sometimes your posts are like a breath of fresh air.

I'm a hit or miss viewer of Oprah, but it was nice to catch her show once in awhile and she will be missed. So far, OWN hasn't lived up to the hype so now she'll have time to focus on it more....where are my new episodes of Mystery Diagnosis?!

I like the Shania Twain show, except her talking voice is driving me batty.

Oprah feeling the need to yell anything she wants to put emphasis on makes the show unwatchable to me.

Well that's that... I made it 25 years without watching a single episode of this show.

But Oprah has done some great stuff for the less fortunate so I'll always respect her for that.

The Behind the Scene episode was about SO much more than Jenn Hudson losing weight. It was more about how she was flown in a couple of days ahead of a massive snowstorm and then decided to fly to Texas for some b-day party the day before the storm and taping of the show and almost didn't make it back in time.. in fact, she didn't make it back in time and had everyone waiting for hours. Miss O was not happy.

So doees this mean that those of us in Chicago will now get Jimmy Kimmel Live an hour earlier (after Nightline)? Are they still gonna be showing Oprah reruns through September? Will that be when we can get JKL at the proper time?

Re: Oprah's Farewell Show -- 5/25/2011

Oh, I forgot to add: One of the best things about Oprah was her skillful interviews. Most recently with John Edward's mistress, that one was amazing! She has the ability to make the interviewee feel comfortable, but she doesn't hold back from asking the hard questions.
