Bedrock - Flintstones sequel series
Wonder how kid friendly this will be?
EXCLUSIVE: Seth MacFarlane is one of the busiest creatives in show business -- and he just got a lot busier. I've just learned that he's finally realized one of his life's ambitions: to reboot The Flintstones as a TV and film property. My scoop today follows years of very complicated negotiations between 20th Century Fox TV, where McFarlane is based, and Warner Bros Television, which owns the rights to the series after absorbing The Flintstones' famed producer Hanna-Barbera. Not only did the suits have a ton of deal points to work through, but I hear the "Yabba Dabba Doo" prehistoric family sitcom's rightholders were somewhat concerned how the classic series would be interpreted given MacFarlane's brand of raunchy comedies like Family Guy. (But, if you ask me, Universal's dreadful Flintstones films were the real abomination ...) So here are all the Hollywood players who had to unentangle this mess: MacFarlane's attorney Jim Jackoway, WME's Ari Emanuel and Greg Hodes; 20th Century Fox TV's Gary Newman, Ira Kurghan, and Howard Kurtzman; and Warner Bros Television's Peter Roth, Brett Paul and even Bruce Rosenblum. There's no broadcast date as of yet, but the reboot will air on Fox.

You think that's a bad idea? How about the time I used [dinosaur] for [random task].
The Flintstones remake will write itself!

I have no issues with this
But I'm not too picky about my comedies, as long as there isn't a laugh track.

I'm sure MacFarlane has already done a Flintstone reference or two in his existing shows. I don't recall, but FOX must have been really impressed. This seems like an odd choice for a new animated show.

He's done his fair share of Flintstones references, the voices were off slightly and they are intentionally corny lines.

It sounds like it might work for an episode or two, but I can't vouch for a whole series run of it if it's going to be that length of a Family Guy parody of The Flinstones. As it is, I stopped watching FG months ago when it was clear to me the show stopped being funny, and I'd already given up on his other shows.

"The Flintstones" is a dead property. It's an entertaining relic of the 60s, but that's where it should stay. In reruns for Baby Boomers and Gen X'ers who grew up with it.
Trying to "reboot" or "update" the property, to make it more "hip" for "today's kids", makes me want to "puke" all over the "floor".

Ugh. I hope The Simpsons never goes off the air, because it's the only thing that stands in the way of Sunday becoming two or three hours of Set MacFarlane. Depending on when this is ready, it makes me worry for the continued existence of the infinitely funnier Bob's Burgers as well.
And don't get me wrong, Family Guy still has its moments, but I'm just tired of MacFarlane's shtick. American Dad still works because they tell stories and don't rely on the same tired jokes, and The Cleveland Show likewise tells stories with minimal non-sequiturs and flashbacks, sort of like Family Guy in its early years.
But yeah, this sounds like a terrible idea.

Kids today: "They're making a whole show about the Fruity/Cocoa Pebbles characters?"
or
"They're making a whole show about the characters from those vitamins?"

What a terrible idea compared to, say, coming up with almost anything original which I would actually give a try.

I want to see this made just because I'm curious what tone it will take. I enjoy his current shows but I think I would be most impressed if it was somewhat wholesome while still being funny.

It will be nothing like the others. He loves all the old HB cartoons. He will do this right, but it might not work because people will expect a cave man Family Guy.

I'd actually be interested in seeing this if it is devoid of his usual vulgarity and is, like SpanishTechno says, a more wholesome family show. However, I don't think MacFarlane is capable of restraining his juvenile impulses, so I'm fully expecting a stone age version of Family Guy.
