Re: The Voice -- The Live Performances Thread -- Mondays/Tuesdays (NBC)

Even though I'd say my #1 genre is old-school R&B, Jermaine Paul doesn't appeal to me as a solo artist. If he put out a video, I'd be curious to see what he did, but I doubt I'd want to see it past that. Watching Jermaine perform always feels like I'm watching someone reporting for jury duty on a capital offense trial. He's just so ... serious. Even I Believe I Can Fly had no joy in it for me. Overearnest as all get out, but no joy. He seems like he's in a constant state of bottling up his emotions, which is great for being a strong man, but somewhat counterproductive to being an artist.

I don't see how Chris Mann could be the "pop" guy he wants to be, but being a 2nd rate Andrea Bocelli or Josh Groban is pretty good company. That Ave Maria was good stuff IMO. I'm also saving The Prayer.

Part of the problem with this season for me is there's never been a time when I thought I saw someone commercially viable. At least last year I thought Javier could possibly sell records. I couldn't say I was surprised that he didn't have any significant success. With Jermaine, anything's possible, but I just don't see it. Juliet seems like the most commercially viable to me, though I didn't save any of her performances. And Tony Lucca? Well, XTina was particularly snarky, but if she says he's a one trick pony, I have trouble disagreeing. I don't see him as a recording artist either.

The Voice -- The 3rd Season -- NBC -- Fall 2012 Edition

<img src="http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1383/thevoiceh.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/>

NBC has fashioned the fall season premiere of "The Voice" into a three-night event with the addition of a new night on Wednesday, September 12 (8-9 p.m. ET) following the previously scheduled debut on Monday, September 10 (8-10 p.m. ET) and Tuesday, September 11 (8-9 p.m. ET). "The Voice" returns with the strongest vocalists from across the country invited to compete in the blockbuster vocal competition show's third season. Celebrity musician coaches Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton return along with Carson Daly as host and Christina Milian as Social Media Correspondent. Monday night (September 10) will open with the Grammy Award-winning coaches performing "Start Me Up" together to show the new contestants just how it's done. Then the blind auditions begin with the coaches in their chairs turned away from the singers, until the strength of a voice motivates the coaches to start pressing their buttons and turning their chairs around. The show's innovative format features four stages of competition: the blind audition, the battle round, the brand new knockouts and finally, the live performance shows.

It's back tonight in case you weren't aware. Remember, there will be 2 cycles this TV season Fall and then a Spring edition.

This will be the default thread for the Auditions and the Battle Rounds. I'll do a new thread when it gets narrowed down to the Live shows.

FYI, it's airing 3 nights this week.

Can't believe they were raving about that yodeling country singer, but nobody turned around for the girl who sang "No Woman, No Cry."

Not sure what to make of the female Urkel.

Watched the 1st hour tonight.

I enjoyed what I saw so far. The Scottish guy who sang The Who song had solid vocals. I think that was kind of messed up that the coaches waited until almost the last note to turn around.

The female Urkel (De'borah) was definitely cooky. I thought her vocals were okay. I think the personality was more of a factor.

 I liked Devyn purely for selfish reasons. :D Gorgeous girl. She did an alright job with X-Tina's song. I think some good coaching from X-Tina will help her get better.

I'm glad that the coaches passed on the kid who's father died. I agree with Blake's assessment on him.

^^ I agree about the Yodeler. I don't know why Blake was raving about her. You could probably go to any country fair in the U.S. and find 10 girls like her.

The weird thing about this show is how much better the Blind Audition phase is than the rest of the show. There's just something fascinating about watching how the judges assess the vocal talents of these contestants -- especially Adam who seems to agonize over every button push. It's an entertaining hour of TV -- too bad it airs over two hours of filler and commercials. If ever there were a show that needed a Hopper...

I had to hold back from throwing my remote at the tv. For now on its on the DVR schedule so I can fast forward the intros, the crying, and the hugs and Levine just needs to shut up now. Guy talks on and on even when he doesn't push his button. lol I do watch for the singing and the parts where they go to their coaches and surprise guests for their rehearsals.

No one except for the singer Ceelo picked impressed me. Oh that and the ridiculous top good ole Sloppy Tits was wearing last night.

Agree 100%.

The selection process is really fascinating to watch. There's a nice little element of suspense there, as to who's going to turn around and who isn't.

Then the competition begins and the whole things falls apart. They start throwing so many people off so quickly, often for stupid and arbitrary reasons. I might stick around for the auditions (DVR this, and FF through the commercials and bullshit and two hours shrinks to less than an hour.)

I am watching the Voice of China, China's version. They are doing the shit over there. Too much crying from contestants and the judges though.

I really like the Potter/Beiber kid from last night and I hate that song... Really surprised Blake didnt turn as he and Cee-lo always seemed to go for those guys.

Got caught up with the last 3 episodes including tonights.

So far, I think XTina and Adam have pretty good teams.

I think Blake has the weakest team so far. They are all really one-dimensional singers.

The one who impressed me was Samuel Mouton on Adam's team. Don't know how diverse he is with other genres, but I enjoyed his sound.

 at that chick named DOMO. That was just so fucking obnoxious. I had no idea that Cee-Lo wrote that song for the Pussycat Dolls. DOMO's Mom looks like a Lesbian Transvestite Body Builder.

That was her mom?!?!?-eek--eek-

I always fast forward the intros so I had no idea. I asked wifey if that was a man or woman and she had no clue.

Yeah, I have to agree that Blake has the weakest team but I do think Ceelo has the best one so far.

If you didn't know Cee Lo wrote Don'tcha, you're in for a treat if you can actually come across video of him performing it. Yes, he does. VH-1 Storytellers. At least he admits it's not a song that can be used to really showcase vocals.

I really liked Nicole Nelson's rendition of Hallelujah. I don't know what she'll do going forward, but if I had to get married after one date, I'd go ahead and say, "I do."

Really like Nelson and Nelson as well.

Right now I think Christina's team is going to be the most difficult to watch whittle down.

Some big changes for the Spring edition of The Voice. Cee-Lo and Xtina will be taking the season off to do other projects. Shakira and Usher will be the new coaches along with Blake and Adam.

Guy at the end was great. Right now I'd put him in the top 3 to win it all. However, we do have about half the slots still open.

I heard about this on the radio this morning. It'll be a nice change of pace, but I'm glad that Adam and Blake will be there. ;)

Re: The Voice -- The 3rd Season (Auditions/Battle Round Thread) -- Fall 2012 Edition

I originally thought Blake would be the one to leave because he has commented publicly that he doesn't like the 2 seasons per year format and the producers are asking too much as they have careers and personal lives. Adam must not sleep between all the Voice stuff, Maroon 5, collabs, and American Horror Story.
