Re: Doctor Who -- The Wedding of River Song -- 10/1/11

I just finished watching, and I am glad that they at least tied it together, but I agree, that was kinda weak on first view.

Although, I don't completely 'get it' yet either. I'm going to have to watch it again.

The only thing I found even remotely compelling about this episode was the tiny bit about the Brigadier. For some reason that nearly wrecked me.

I think the biggest thing that got me excited coming out of this is that next season should be a darker Doctor as you would think that instead of saving the day like always, he's going to be more behind the scenes just trying to get to The Silence and anyone involved.

I liked it, though I was a bit confused as to how River was able to not kill the Doctor. I heard her explanation about what she did to the suit and how she remembered everything but... WHy would he ever be killed then? Wlouldn't that not make it a fixed point in time?

Spoiler:
For all intents and purposes she did kill him. She's sitting in prison because the universe thinks she did.
Maybe more detail will be given during the Christmas special. Would really hate waiting until next spring..

I agree with watching the confidential if you can. River tells her story in her own timeline.

Well, they almost made it a full season without any Daleks.

The whole resolution of that was silly. He was in the Meet Dave robot, so technically he was there when the Doctor died, which doesn't make sense because he didn't die, and how did it burn, and... ugh.

I still don't understand why the robot Doctor started the regeneration thing.

Also, a little disappointed how easy Madame Kovarian was disposed of (if she is actually gone for good).

I thought it was alright. Series 6 really needed more Daleks.

Favorite episode? I saw them all except 'let's kill Hitler."
My favs:
the girl who waited.
the god complex.
guilty pleasure episode: the black spot.

As much as I liked this episode , my fave is still The Doctor's Wife.. For this series. Of the 11th era Doctor my all time favorite episode is "Vincent and the Doctor"

It truly made me weep. I still wish we could find a way to bring back 10..

A regeneration? Or something that looked like a regeneration?
Spoiler:
Since the Teselecta could make a motorcycle emerge from it's body, simulating a regeneration should be no big deal.

For all of the build up of the season, it did seem kind of weak, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It seemed like during the RTD run, season finales had to get bigger and bigger and you can only amp it up so far.

I enjoyed the hell out of the finale. I really couldn't figure out how they were going to tie up all the loose ends in 45 (or so) minutes but they did for the most part. Much better than last years finale. In fact, I found Series 6 much more enjoyable than Series 5.

I loved the episode. But that doesn't surprise me, since I generally love Moffat-penned episodes.

Oh, and this:

Re: Doctor Who -- The Wedding of River Song -- 10/1/11

I had a hard time digesting this ep and was ultimately disappointed. It just didn't feel major though I realize a lot of stuff happened. Somehow, that first ep of the season felt so full of promise and hinted at such a rocking finale. Eh. Dr. Who may have just jumped the shark for me. I really enjoyed the build up in the first half season episodes but for some reason, I really didn't like much of the second half airings. They seemed a bit off.

I rather they used a ganger. At least for me it would have made more sense, especially for the regeneration.

I'm getting a little tired of season finales where the solution involves hitting a reset button and deleting the "alternate timeline". This is the third time they've done it since the series returned in 2005, and the second time Moffat's done it.

I love that episode. Nothing has come close. Some people made a big deal of "The Girl Who Wated" but, after finally seeing it, it was really just a shit sandwich.

Really the only good things about "The girl who Waited" was seeing just how much Amy really does love Rory. Seeing Rory calling out the Doctor was entertaining. However the Doctor showing Vincent just how much his work would mean to the world later on.... Damn, I have something in my eye.

I guess my liking of this episode had more to do with the little call backs and things. Finally acknowledging things that happened before Moffett took over. Mentioning the Brigadier was huge for me even though I never saw an episode with him. Jack and Rose. I might not have felt the same but after watching Confidential and seeing the River story line in her own words, helped me make sense of it a little better.

Stupid question, I'm sure, but where do you see the Confidential? BBCA certainly doesn't air it.

It was fine.

People radically overthink the conclusions.

They didn't exactly "delete" it this time. They "unstuck" it. Amy, River, and Rory all retained their memories of everything that happened there. As Amy said, "I remember it, so it happened".
