Re: The Event -- "A Message Back" -- 3/21/11

 I liked this episode mainly because we got extended screentime of Taylor Cole for the 1st time in weeks.

 Liked the dress she wore at the party and the side boob shot when she was loading the gun.

The aliens plans are getting a little confusing. So Sofia wanted to go home, Thomas wanted to stay, free the folks at Inostranka & killing a shit load of people to do it. Now their planet is going to blow up so everyone on their planet is going to invade the earth?

Dempsey's motives are still a little vague, but I recall someone mentioned here that he may be looking at the aliens for some kind of anti-aging experiment?

Yeah, I missed last week's episode but it seems like I didn't miss a thing; pretty good episode though and yes, Taylor Cole was looking great.

Did the episode run long? My PVR stopped right as the military was going into the church, after Thomas revealed what the message was and the guard on the door told Thomas the government troops were outside. What happened after that?

Nothing as I recall...it ended right there.

And how did Thomas "phone home" and get a response in days? At least the response was geared to our radio telescopes and presumably limited to light speed. If that sun going supernova is lightdays away, we're in big trouble, never mind the frigging alien invasion.

The signal traveled at the speed of plot.

They should have case Taylor Cole for the new Wonder Woman.

I'm always amazed at how easy it seems to knock someone unconscious with a single whack from a gun. I imagine it would take multiple whacks involving lots of agony and a pool of blood from a huge gash in the head.

Thanks. Did they actually burst in or anything? All I saw was them gathering at the entrance.

So I have a question. I like Taylor Cole, too, and she would have made a good Wonder Woman. I don't mean to threadcrap and I am watching this to the end, but can anyone say they are actually *enjoying* the show? I'm in just to see how the plot works itself out, but I can't say I'm engaged in any of the characters. I continue to think that Jason Ritter was miscast and the characters have done some unbelievably stupid things. I'm still smacking my head in disbelief that Sophia made that woman shoot herself in the leg. Why didn't she just kill her? Just informally polling...

I pretty much agree with you. I am curious where they are going, but I don't particular care what the outcome is.

The writing is just incredibly ham-fisted and cheesy. Some of the characters, particularly the president, are actually appalling to me. I was rolling my eyes at his "let's get tough" new take on things.

I can say it's better than "V," but that's not saying much.

Same here. Curiosity but ultimately don't care. For example this episode summed up:

Learn in the first 5 minutes that Thomas got a message back.
35 minutes of unimportant filler, not to mention boring
last 2 minutes find out what that message was and show the SWAT team arriving... *gasp* cliffhanger!!
roll credits

I think I'm done.
