Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
The only thing that sounds iffy is the videos 'created and submitted by actual "Smallville" fans' bit. But more Lionel is a good thing so I'm cool with that. If the rumour in the casting thread is true, perhaps Lionel is Clark's/Superman's arch nemesis in this continuity.

"Reclaim"? He's from an alternate something or another. He never owned anything over here.

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
I believe that's why he's refered to - or was  - as Magnificent Bastard. ;)

You know that and I know that, but how would you prove it otherwise? |
Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Excellent episode. Great to see Martha again, and Lionel was excellent, as well. Glad the VRA stuff is.finally behind us...

So are they using Superboy's (Kon El's) origin for Alexander?

The rare, elusive great episode.
And Rosenbaum coming back? Best night for Smallville in years |
Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
I thought the video's were cringe inducing, but otherwise a solid episode.

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Ugh, those Beacon video's were horrible. Left a bad taste in a mouth after a decent episode.

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
The Beacon of Hope Youtube videos were awful and I couldn't believe they played so many of them.
But, other than that, it was a great episode. It was good to see Martha again. Plus, thank God this VRA arc appears to be over with. John Glover was awesome in this episode. It was really good to see Evil Lionel back in business. at Clark throwing him to the ground after rescuing him from the fire. Goodbye Luthor mansion!! |
Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
great episode
so it looks like clone Lex must have had some kryptonian DNA inserted into his genome or something |
Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Great. Screwed again. I'm not sure if the idiots a the local affiliate fucked up AGAIN or zap2it stepped in it... but one or both of them did, and the show didn't record.

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Crazy awesome episode. While evil Lex and evil Lionel grew tiresome years ago, super evil Lex and super evil Lionel are firing on all cylinders.
I was a bit miffed early when they copped out on the "Truth, justice and the American way" just like Superman Returns but they sorta made up for it in the end with Lois calling him an American Hero. Not sure why there is so much hate for the YouTube vids. It was supposed to be regular folks supporting the Blur and that's what they got. It worked for me. |
Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Allison is in the opening credits instead of "guest star". Yay!

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
since he mentioned the suit he better start wearing it in the next episode or two

i thought he was talking about the red leather jacket

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
I didn't mind the youtube videos except they went on way too long.

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
This series, for me anyway, has never been spectacular, but there are moments that are great, and that is why I continue to watch.
Overall, I didn’t think this episode was great, but something happened in this episode that I absolutely loved. When Clark talked with his mom about how it felt weird to hide Clark behind a bad haircut and glasses, because she had raised him to be proud of who he was…I don’t remember the actual words, but I was something that I had never thought about with superman before. I mean, I have heard the critique that the bumbling reporter was Kal-el’s assessment of humans, but really, this take on that dynamic stuck a chord with me for some reason. I don’t know, no one else probably cared, but that was a bright spot in a dim episode for me. |

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
If Alexander was fused with Kryptonian DNA, how is he not susceptible to Kryptonite?
This episode was kind of a mixed bag for me. Lionel and Martha were great, but Clark and Martha talking about he and other vigilantes being in hiding in front of an open door in a hospital seemed awfully lame. With so few episodes left, they better start getting back to Darkseid. I'd hate it if they rush it out in 1 or 2 episodes. |

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Here's the quote you guys were looking for:
Well, when I saw those people willing to defend me, it was inspiring. It got me to thinking that, in order for The Blur to be a true beacon of hope, maybe people need to see my face, too. I've been to the future, and I saw the hero that I will become to save the city. But I also saw me - I mean...Clark Kent - disguised behind glasses and a bad haircut. |
Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
It was actually the dialog after that, IIRC where he said he didn't want to treat Clark Kent as a disguise, since it's who he really is.

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Oh, my bad.
Still, there's that for anybody that wants it |

Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Talk about a dark episode!
This new Lex with old Lex memories is damn creppy! It's also interesting to see how alt-Lionel is struggling with what to do here. Maybe he's worried about an evil Clark since he knows he can turn on him and doesn't want to destroy him. He'd rather have him buzzing around and stay in the shadows. I loved the interaction between Lionel and anybody. The Ollie and Lionel and Martha and Lionel parts were especially good. I also thought Clark and Martha having their conversation in the open was very weird. At least shut the door! I'm also calling bogus on Martha getting rushed to the hospital and treated before Clark gets to the hospital. We saw Clark go from Smallville to Metropolis in the premier to save Lois and the Plante globe in a matter of seconds. Then Chloe just pops in past the security as well?! Very werid with Lex showing some degree of powers. My main gripe with that is it's one more thing to deal with. As others have said the Darkside plot has taken a back seat and really needs to come back. It really should have been going on this entire time. They could have been showing tv clips in the background of every episode with Godfrey spreading his message. I thought Clark had already been wearing the shirt and jacket? He put that back on earlier in the season after he said goodbye to his dad and ditched the black suit. Speaking of, I wonder if the episode "Kent" will deal with Clark addressing that issue he brought up to Martha. Seems fitting. |
Re: Smallville -- "Beacon" -- 2/11/11
Cool episode. Loved having Martha back. And evil Lionel was good too, even though I did like the arc where he became Clark's ally.
Interesting stuff about Alexander. If it's true that he turns out to be Spoiler:
