Friday Night Lights
2006-2011 You had an awesome run, even though most of America didn't watch.

This episode reportedly runs a full 60 minutes, not the usual 44-45. I have to wonder if NBC will chop it down to include commercials.

I'll probably be bitching about NBC in the future about something so I'll use this time to publicly thank them for sticking with a show they really didn't have to stick with.
Let's face it folks, this show never really took off the way it should have.. and maybe that's a good thing. Maybe that kept the writers on their toes, they didn't get spoiled in the wave of success. And it kept us fans loyal.

While every single episode wasn't Emmy worthy.. you have to admit that there was ALWAYS one or two Emmy worthy scenes in every episode. Even the "murder that never happened" storyline gave us some bone chilling scenes.

Major, major kudos to Directv for stepping in the unknown and taking a chance with something they've never done before. I'll wait until next week to complain once again that AMC still in in HD -screwy-

I read an article last week that Kyle Chandler is the most sought after actor this pilot season. Man.. does he have large shoes to fill or what? I don't know if he'll ever get another role like he had in this one. Good luck with that Mr. C!

Anyway... Get the tissues ready, I hear we're going to need them.

Your post pretty much sums up everything I would have said, even the crack about Directv not having AMC in HD. ;)

Anyway, I will miss this show tremendously. One of my favorites of all time. I still remember the day I found season 1 at Wal Mart for $10 and said "What the hell, I'll give it shot". Easily one of the best blind buys I ever bought.

As for Kyle Chandler, he's also going to be in the new JJ Abrams movie, Super 8, this summer. The highlight for me of the 30 second clip we saw for this movie during the Super Bowl was that Chandler was starring in it.

Thanks NBC and Directv for not giving up on this show 3 years ago.

Here is Sepinwall's homage to FNL
If you haven't seen Season 5 don't scroll down to the end

Good to know! I will actually watch it "live" even though it never had commercials on the 101. I am really going to miss this show but am seriously looking forward to seeing how it wraps up!

ATTENTION:
Sepinwall just tweeted that the finale is 61:30 long... check your DVRS to be sure the extra minute and a half is recorded.

I am really going to miss this show. Haven't been so emotional over a show ending since Buffy.

Of all the nights for my direct tv receiver to take a dump. Unbelievable. Hoping they can ship me a new one before Saturday as this is the last day this episode will be shown. I'm livid right now.

I loved how the show ended. I will definetely miss this show. It was different and better than some of the shows that get high ratings and will still be on this time next year.

I wish the cast the best of luck. I forgot to watch The Chicago Code on Monday. I'll probably watch it online sometime soon. I hope Matt Lauria does well in that show.

Kyle and Connie are considered to be hot agents for next pilot season. It was announced a few days back that Connie is developed a series for FX with David O. Russell. I hope we get info on that soon.

Kyle turned down the FOX show Terra Nova.

:clap::clap:

Oh my God, I fucking loved it. Simply an amazing well-written and directed hour of television. Huge kudos to Jason Katims for his amazing script.

Rarely do I get emotional watching a television program, but I actually shed a tear at the end. It was just an exhilirating and emotional hour.

 One of the things that I loved was how Katims kept the ending of the game ambiguous until it jumped forward 8 months later.

I especially loved the scene where Eric told Tami that he passed on the contract and said it was her turn this time.

The retrospective interviews at the end with the cast was great, but I was surprised that Kyle Chandler wasn't there.

Anyways, those of you who are waiting for the DVD release or NBC's airing are in for a treat. I really hope that NBC doesn't chop up the series finale to fit a 60 minutes with commercials. And the DVD release better be the 61 minute version!!

It was great to see Eric and Tami have a happy ending.

Anyways, I'm going to miss this show terribly. It went out on top creatively. Now I'm sad that I'm going to delete it from my season passes. :(

There were many, but one of my favorite lines of the night:
"Please take me with you to Philadelphia".

Katims did a couple of interviews

Ausiello

It was just great that the fans got some form of closure for the main characters of this fine show, the likes of which only come around every 10-15 years. Farewell, it was a great ride, FNL.

Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose.

Awesome, awesome episode. The most satisfying series finale in a while. I liked how they resolved the Tami/Coach story by having Tami back down first and basically guilt Coach into letting her take the job. Seemed like a very believable outcome.

One of the best episodes of any TV show I've ever seen. The seasons after the first two were sorta hit and miss, but this one trumps them all. Fantastic ending, all around (just wished there was more Landry...)

DJariya 02-11-11 04:08 AM

Re: Friday Night Lights -- Series Finale -- "Always" -- 2/09/11

It was mentioned in Ausiello's TVLine interview with Katims, but they apparently shot an alternate ending of the final scene with Billy and Tim building the house and Tim saying "Texas Forever"

The alternate ending features Tim and Jason Street instead. Even though Jason Street wasn't originally scripted in the finale, Scott Porter asked Katims if they could shoot the final scene with him and Taylor Kitsch as a favor because he wanted to be part of the finale in some capacity. I hope the scene makes it to the deleted scenes section of the DVD set in April. I would really like to see it.

Probably the most underrated series ever on TV. Incredible finale and incredible show.

It will be missed.
