I want this to happen so much. I've been itching for a rewatch. I've tried to get a couple of friends to watch it with me, but they all get turned off by the idea of a western.

With every passing day, the long-promised “Deadwood” movie looks less like a fantasy and more like reality.
In a new interview with The Times, actress Robin Weigert — who famously portrayed Calamity Jane in the HBO western — suggested that a “Deadwood” reunion is closer than ever.
“It's safe enough to say it's happening this fall," Weigert said. “There's a set being built and tax incentives to get it done. A lot of [actors] have signed on. There's a 90% chance it'll finally happen.”
Indeed, the stars seem to finally be aligning for the project, which has been more than 10 years in the making.
After the show’s third season in 2006, it was unceremoniously canceled due to a dispute between its studio (Paramount) and network (HBO). At the time, HBO and “Deadwood” creator and showrunner David Milch agreed to two two-hour TV movies in lieu of a fourth season.
The movies never materialized, but there were enough encouraging comments in the 12 years since then that fans never lost hope that they might get a final chapter to the series.
At the Television Critics Assn. press tour in January, Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming, was optimistic about the prospect of the movie and thought filming could potentially begin this fall.
In April, Deadline reported that a “Deadwood” movie project had received a nearly $4.2-million California tax incentive, despite not yet receiving an official green light from the network.
HBO had no news to report about a potential “Deadwood” film after an inquiry from The Times on Friday morning. And representatives for David Milch did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

HBO’s Deadwood reunion movie is at long last a go. HBO president Casey Bloys announced Wednesday at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour that the long-gestatating project will, as TVLine first reported last year, begin shooting this fall. “We are greenlit on the Deadwood movie,” he said. “We’re looking at an October start date. It has been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedule lined up, but we are there, and it is greenlit.”

Great that it's more official. But it seems the cast had been told it was official a long time ago given Kim Dickens said it was 100% a go back when she was killed off from FTWD.

Glad to hear it's official from the network, but yeah following both Dickens and Dillahunt on social media made it sound pretty much official a couple months back.

Now the question remains, does Jeffrey Jones get the call.

I enjoyed the show when I caught up watching it on DVD (this is when I did not have cable) and while I was not mad it ended the way it did I do appreciate that some things that were foreshadowed might get their day in court (so to speak).

I eagerly await the final product and pray no more of the important members die off before they film it!

Because he's a pederast.
Deadwood is my favorite series of all time, but I just dont see how this can work, just too much time has past.
I thought the original intention was to take the series through to the fire of 1879 that pretty much wiped out the city. That was just 2 years after the last season.
I'm sure they can fudge the timelines and ages, but its going to be awkward.
I'll have to watch it, but I dont have high hopes.

Everyone already knew that when he was first cast in Deadwood. He was arrested in 2002.
Deadwood is special. And most special things are the product of uncontrollable elements, like the time they're made, the chemistry between the artists. You can't just pick back up stuff like that as though it's riding a bike.

Hollywood is much less likely to turn a blind eye to that stuff then they were when this was first on the air.

As much as I love Deadwood, I'll be watching this with low expectations. Just the format change alone from episodes covering a roughly 24 hour period to a two hour movie will be jarring enough. But the passage of time, the loss of so many actors...

Just rewatched the entire series. It is glorious. I have to think this show has the greatest acting of any show that I can remember. The language is also so unique and so Shakespearian. The menace of Hearst in season 3 was epic. Was great seeing it because when I first watched it, I did it on a tiny 20" SD TV, quite a bit removed from the 65" UHD set I watched it on a second time.
2 hour movie? Really? Just seems like so little.
