That 70's Show, when does it start dipping in quality?

Watched an episode last night for prob the first time and i actually found it funny. I have seen bits and pieces throughout the years but never a full episode. I wanted to pick up a few of the dvd sets since i can usually find em cheap, and was wondering if there are seasons to avoid.

Season 6 starts the decline. It's pretty good in season 6, just decent in season 7 and just horrible in the final season.

The first five seasons are most excellent.

This. They should have called it then.

Much like the Office needs to call it when Carrell leaves.

I thought it was really good until the last season, myself.

For those that are wondering, the entire series will be available to stream on Netflix this coming Tuesday with other Carsey-Werner productions joining it (3rd Rock From the Sun, Cosby Show and Roseanne).

As soon as Seth Myers' brother joined the cast as a lame replacement for both Grace and Kutcher, the show was over in my eyes.

+1

Season 6-7 weren't too bad, but they didn't have the charm of the first five years. It's a shame they didn't end it there. Season 8 was so rotten, it left a lingering odor on my memory of the entire series.

Matching what some others have said, it started declining for me after they graduated from High School (which was the end of S5), it coasted in a "not great, but not that bad" way for S6 and S7, and then got pretty bad for the final season after Topher left.

You are correct sir! I will eventually get S8 to finish my set but it has to be cheap. ;) I always liked the ones with Tommy Chong the best.
One of my favorites was when they went to Canada to buy beer.

I remember thinking of this dude as a reject from a hardy boys casting call.

I bought it for $75 a couple months after it was released - from BarnesandNoble.com, I believe. I think it's been a DotD at Amazon for less than that.

Seasons 1 -5 have the charm. Season 6 to the end not so much.

Yeah, the show is ultimately forgettable, but not a terrible way to waste a little bit of time now and then.

I watched it somewhat regularly for the first 3-4 seasons. All said, Topher Grace is a charming enough lead, Kurtwood Smith is a riot and combined with Debra Jo Rupp they play cliche, but endearing, parental roles. Warning - If you find Ashton Kutcher annoying, you will absolutely continue to here.

The biggest revelation from the whole series to me is how completely underused, underwritten and wasted Mila Kunis was in this show. She's actually a pretty funny and charismatic actress, glad to see her getting lots of good work lately.
