Is NCIS any good?
 

Does anyone watch this show? I know no one who does, and yet it seems to be the highest rated drama on TV this year (By an absolutely insane amount...almost 22 million viewers a week?!).

So, I posit a question: Is this show any good? It's never looked very interesting to me but people must be watching it in droves for a reason? Should I rent season one and give it a go? Any recommendations?

Its not addictive like Dexter or Veronica Mars; but its quite enjoyable nonetheless, on a consistent basis. Quirky characters. Not too serious. Great theme song.

:thumbsup: I like it, but the real charm of the show is the characters. Other than that, it's your typical CBS action crime procedural with open and shut cases solved in 44 mins. Occasionally, the show will have multi-episode arcs.

The show is somewhat unique in that it deals with Navy Cops as opposed to FBI or regular police.

Also, if you didn't know, NCIS is a spinoff of the show JAG, which aired on CBS for 9 seasons (It aired 1 season on NBC).

When I do watch it, it is enjoyable. It seems pretty good to watch if you just want something entertaining and that'll be fun without needing to know the entire story arc.

I've never seen the show. What I can tell you is this: My Mom is a HUGE fan. She loves every minute of it. I've purchased her all of the season sets.

I'm honestly not sure if that knowledge will help you in the slightest. Maybe... rent the first season if your curious? I think that is the natural option.

It's okay. There's something about it that feels like a low budget, imitation CSI without the lame one-liners. The characters are okay, the computer talk is hilariously off, the stories are predictable but occasionally fun.

It's a fun show but only in small doses. I find the marathon runs on USA to be rather overkill.

I find her cute as a button (although her "work attire" irks the hell out of me :lol:).

My mon also likes this show. And I also have an affinity for the goth lab chick but I do not actively watch it.

I like the show and have been watching since probably season two. And like DJariva said, it's about the characters rather than the stories (although the show does have some good ones over the years).

I saw the first two seasons and then got bored during the third and never went back. Once you get used to the personalties and the humor, it gets really stale. It never grew enough to keep me interested.

My girlfriend watches it therefore I watch it. This is my first season to watch it, and while its fine, it seems the writers just use a Mad-Lib type of script and just fill in different names and murders into the blanks. Every episode is so similar its funny.

Essentially it is why CBS is number one in the ratings. Just because it appeals to the masses doesn't make it great or riveting television.

I for one love this show,yes its a lil quirky but I have had a many of marathon days
its not as flashy as CSI but the procedural of the crime solving and evidence collecting is much closer to real life than CSI give it a try I think its worth it:)

None of these women that you guys are posting do anything for me.Especially the goth chick. :shrug:

And the responses so far certainly don't engender much interest.

But whatever. I suppose I'll see if I can rent the first two episodes somewhere and give it a go. Thanks for the replies.

This show has been on for 8 seasons, yet I have never seen 10 seconds of it even while flipping channels and couldn't tell you what day it was on. That's weird.

The goth girl looks like a spoof of a goth girl. Which makes sense, since she's 41 and dressing like a goth girl.

I'm not a big fan of the original but NCIS LA has grown on me.

We have seen every single episode - and it is definitely because of the characters not the cases.

For some reason I don't think Abby is ugly. In some instances she is cute and has a quirky appeal appeal as you said.
