SNL 12/18/10 - H: Jeff Bridges - MG: Eminem & Lil Wayne

Jeff Bridges is up tonight... this is his second time hosting.

Back in '83 he hosted with his brother Beau.

For some reason it's tripping me out that Jeff is 61 and Beau is 69.

Just an interesting side note about a possible new addition to the SNL cast...

He's earned rave reviews the three times he's hosted Saturday Night Live, and now Justin Timberlake says he would actually join the cast of the show -- under the right circumstances. Justin told the TV show Extra that if the show offered him a one-to-two-year contract, he would "absolutely" sign on the dotted line." Are you listening, Lorne Michaels?

Justin's latest role is providing the voice of Boo Boo in the new movie Yogi Bear, starring original Saturday Night Live cast member Dan Aykroyd. Aykroyd told Extra that he considers Justin to be "an extended family member of extended alumnus of [SNL] for sure."
Sounds waaaaaaaay to good to be true!

I dunno how good of an idea that would be. I imagine the great writing that Timberlake usually gets on the show would fade away pretty quick and he'd be relegated to standard blah.

Would be interesting though.

Rumors for hosts for the second half of the season include Jim Carrey (in January) and Dana Carvey (in February).

Also, there is an online campaign for Cookie Monster to host SNL. This is similar to the campaign to get Betty White to host.

Why couldn't this happen during the time when John Goodman seemed to pretty much be crashing in the studio he showed up so much?

No point in hoping for Lebowski references with Tron and True Grit to exploit, anyway.

They could still do a bit with him getting sick of constantly being referred to as "The Dude" or "His Dudeness" of "The Dude-err-ino" if youre' not into that brevity thing.

When did Brent Spiner start playing keyboards for Eminem?

I appreciate the amount of energy the musical guest provided... unfortunately it didn't help the actual music.

That was supposed to be an impression of Brad Pitt? Not even on an exaggerated level did that sound like him.

Yeah, he sounded like Bowzer from the old Sha Na Na show.

Re: SNL 12/18/10 - H: Jeff Bridges - MG: Eminem & Lil Wayne

Lame cold open.

Only one or two skits made me chuckle. I was out after weekend update.

Too much Kristen Wiig.

The host read from the cue cards in skits too much.

Who heard of teh musical guest? Music today sucks.

SNL sucks these days...who watches it anymore? I remember the good old days when nobody complained about the show.

Sorry, I haven't watched the episode yet. I just figured I would use the SNL response template for this thread.

The new girl who does the Miley Cyrus show is pretty good.

The Brad Pitt impression was awful, it sounded nothing like him. On the other hand, Samberg nailed his impression of Billy Bob Thornton.

They're really milking this Wikileaks guy. I like the way he closes the bit, "if I'm dead, it was murder."

Okay, we got Cookie Monster. No need for him to host now.

CAN'T WAIT for Jim Carrey!

Carrey is great. But with bad material and writing, he's gonna suck. I'm so fucking frustrated with this show. How do most of these skits get past the "reading table"!? It's not the player's fault. It's the abysmal writing! And it's been horrible (for the most part) for YEARS! Click on any given "SNL" thread ever and most will agree. We all still tune in hoping for a good skit or two each show. But that expectation is pretty pathetic.

Back to tonight's show...."The Miley Cyrus Show" is good but it's starting to becoming over exposed. I'm guessing because they are grasping at straws. It works so let's keep beating it into the ground. I too thought the Brad Pitt impersonation was horrible. And thought maybe it was another Brad Pitt until Anjelina Jolie joined him. Last, ENOUGH with the Wikileaks guy. Again, they are milking what once was a pretty funny thing. And now it's just tired.

Also, why is Carrey hosting? What is he promoting...."Philip Morris"!?

I thought it was a really good episode. The Miley Cyrus Show always cracks me up. Also loved seeing The Dude with The Cookie Monster.

After a promising pre-monologue opening piece, the show sank to a very disappointing level quickly. The host played himself in a lot of humorless sketches. The only thing that got me laughing was the "Crunkmastis Festival."

Thought it was uneven but Bridges brought out his patented awesome face-gestures ala Starman with the Gift Wrapping bit.

I got the Brad Pitt impression, think it at times sound like him but it got too Southern at times.

The biggest problem with this episode is that they should not have had Bridges do impressions; the Nolte one was bad and having him do Dog was a bad idea. A Vinny Vedecci sketch with him would have been better IMO, playing of The Dude.
