^^ This is a very good read. Joseph Mallozzi, who is the Executive Producer and writer on SGU, says that they have a 5 season story arc planned for the show. However, it's dependent on whether SyFy renews the show.

Also, they wrapped production of season 2 on November 19th. The cast and crew are waiting for SyFy to decide on season 3. SyFy is expected to decide by December or January at the latest. If season 3 is greenlit, they are expected to start filming in February or March.

Yeah, I saw the 5 season arc tidbit somewhere the other day. I'm at least glad they have some sort of plan, because at times the show has felt aimless. Season 1 was focused so heavily on day to day survival and the crew coming to grips with being stuck so far from home. I always felt that aspect was grounded and appreciated it. Then we picked up the Lucian Alliance plot which was actually gripping until everything spilled over onto the Destiny (literally). I guess the good news is they didn't dwell on that part every other scene. However, the only big things this front half have been Chloe's change and discovering this background 'noise' in the universe.

Just checked out the trailer - guess we know where most of the budget went for the front half of the season!

I hope they make it to 5 seasons, but SyFy greenlit alot of Pilots recently (which should make the creators nervous), and the Tuesday at 9pm timeslot is killing this show.

I think SyFy should have done with they did with Stargate Atlantis, air the 1st half of the season in the summer with less competition and then air the back episodes in January. The niche audience that your trying to appeal to is probably watching the network shows in the Fall.

What shows? I read a while back about some shows that sounded awesome, one with Kevin Sorbo and I was going to make a thread about it, but I did other stuff

I liked that the bridge retracts into the hull for combat

Telford showing up was great

so how long is the hiatus? and why does Sci fi keep pulling this 10 eps and then 6 months off bullshit that kills their shows' fan base?

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

This was pretty disappointing compared to the season 1 finale. That built up over several episodes and was dripping with tension. A lot of this was a retread of a couple recent episodes. The "let's explore a derelict (again!) was tedious, and the "ship back from the dead" storyline was just done LAST WEEK!

Nice to see Telford again, but I have a sneaking feeling he'll disappear again as fast as he appeared. I still like the show, and hope it lasts several seasons, but this wasn't terribly exciting. Now that they know Destiny's mission, and have some semblance of control over the ship, they need to really shake things up. Something like BSG's "one year later" scene that really grabs people and makes them pay attention.

You're comparing the season 1 finale to a mid-season episode. This isn't the season 2 finale.

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

Ratings for the midseason finale

1.1M viewers and 0.5 in the demos.

I have to wonder if SyFy is happy with this being under 1.0 in the demos. The bright side is that it's getting better numbers than Caprica, but this is still a pretty expensive show to produce I would assume.

This was a pretty weak break episode. I think everybody already mentioned the good points. I'm still baffled by the producers and cast saying they learned from S1 and fixed all the weak points. So why is that the back half of S1 has been the best stretch of episodes for this show?

As much as I like the ensemble, Brody getting offed getting back to the shuttle would have been a nice shakeup.

Couldn't they give us a hint of what Chloe did? Would have given some more weight to the cliffhanger, but I'm sure it saves the day in 10 seconds.

I did like Rush's speech to Eli.

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

Chloe probably programmed the Death Blossom into Destiny's weapon systems. I am hoping she goes about half alien and parts of her body are shown regularly rather than it all being hidden under her clothing. Maybe have half her face the alien skin or one hand, something we can see and the crew has to see every time she is around.

Yeah, but even the mid season finale in S1 was more intense, and had a real surprise at the end.

So why is Young so set on keeping Chloe locked up (I think we know), yet he let's Telford on board in a heartbeat despite being missing for a month with the aliens? Talk about inconsistent!

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

Thought the finale was okay. It has been so long since we've seen aliens that I can't remember who they are talking about when they say "aliens". There are two sets of aliens right? The ones in this episode that had Telford and then the original aliens that captured Rush/Chloe and whom Chloe is presently turning into....

Looking forward to more and hope it gets to complete the 5 season arc!

Superman07 12-07-10 08:20 AM

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

Well there's also these new 3rd party aliens they are attacking the drone/command ship. The Telford aliens are helping them/setting them up to attack the command ship. I do not believe either of those are those that took Rush/Chloe. It has been stated they are one galaxy behind.

Which aliens created the planet?

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

We don't know yet, but based on the powerful stuff we've seen them do it seems unlikely they are any of the aliens the crew has encountered directly.

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

Hey, wmansir, a comment you made in the visitation thread gave me a thought.

We're assuming that Chloe's condition is a result of her capture by the aliens. However, she suddenly got better when Eli left her to go help Greer and Scott. What if Destiny somehow healed her, which would explain how she's able to understand Rush's problems as well as work the ship. It would also explain why when Rush put her in the chair it didn't fix her, because why would Destiny bother undoing what it did in the first place if it needs her?

mewmartigan 12-08-10 08:52 AM

Re: Stargate Universe -- Fall Finale -- "Resurgence" -- 11/30/10

Yeah, I'm not sure where they are going with Chloe's storyline but I hope they don't start to us her as a cheat too much.
"We'll never solve this problem in time! Don't worry, the newly-smart, morphing girl just went into a trance and pushed a few buttons...saved!"
They already did it once with her navigating back to the planet the folks were stranded on after hunting down the LA memeber. Although if it wasn't her, I guess it just would have been a spark of brilliance from Eli instead...

I agree they keep referencing that it was the aliens that did it to her and she is changing into one of them but it seems weird. The markings on her skin don't look like the alien skin do they? And did they ever fully explain what she did before she was quarantined when she would access systems in a trance?

Quick alien count:

bad aliens - captured chloe and rush. Chased them around 1 galaxy. These are the aliens they always refer to when something pops up and the crew says "you think the found us?"

backstab aliens - helped telford and turned the tables on us in the last episode (they have a name now but I couldn't make it out)

hidden aliens - the ones that maybe saved TJs baby and delivered the planet folks back to the ship

drone aliens - the attacking ships and mothership ones.

I think Destiny should run into the Wraith....they don't have to be the main enemy but a few episode arc could be cool. Have them jump to the Pegasus galaxy for a little.

Now that's an interesting idea. If it weren't for the continuing physical changes I would put it well ahead of the aliens did it theory. Based on my shoddy memory of the events so far it's still a strong possibility though.

Oh please, no.

It wouldn't make sense, anyway. The Destiny is exploring galaxies on the far side of the universe, the Pegasus galaxy is reachable by ships from Earth.

That's true, I take it back. No Pegasus galaxy.....how about just a wraith-like alien. It seems the group on Destiny has gotten their butts handed to them by every alien life they have met so far.

Per Ausiello: SG-U will not be renewed for a 3rd season.

So...lets hope for a wrap up to the upcoming 2.5 season in the spring.

How does SGU's production schedule work? How many episodes do they have left to tinker with?

I don't know how successful the SG-1 movies have been, but really hope they don't feel the need to keep this series open ended with future movies in mind. Hopefully the poor ratings will dissuade them from that notion.

Even if they don't wrap things up I mostly just wish they hit the gas on the storylines for the back 10.

I think the show would've done better if it wasnt such a downer.
