Wanted to chime in early with just how much I've loved the turnaround this show has made. I was ready to write it off after the first 5 episodes. So glad I stuck around. Absolutely fantastic now.

I think it's great how so many of the creative talent behind the Sopranos is a part of this show. Gives me a feeling that it's in good hands.

Spoiler:
So is Van Alden going to be up on murder charges? Or will he be able to play the drowning off as an accident and get off on manslaughter?

I'm guessing nothing happens to him. The congregation isn't going to turn him in.

Pretty good episode.

Loved Nucky's line to Margaret "A good person wouldn't be here right now"

I enjoyed this episode a lot. Very interesting turn of events.

So was Jimmy's mom poisoning the Commodore for revenge or to try and get his inheritance? That wasn't clear to me. Wonder what happens next with Margret, and between Jimmy and his wife -- that'll be a touch awkward for a while.

Really excited for the season finale.

Yeah, I think a little bit of both is what was implied.

Van Alden, holy shit! Didn't see that coming. Or the bit with Darmody's wife.

I'm pretty sure her sole motivation in almost anything she does is money, so I'd guess it'd be the inheritance.

I had a feeling Darmody's wife would be stranded - I saw how her lover melted over the battered photographer, and knew she wouldn't leave him.

Pretty funny how Margaret stuck around with Hans Schroeder all them years, with two miscarriages by his hand, and other abuse - yet leaves Nucky after an argument. Well, to be fair to Margaret, her integrity was never in question with Hans. With Hans, she was the mardtyr (easy to stay). With Nucky, the whore (not so easy).

The photographer made some comment in French that made me think his wife was playing her. Don't know if that was the plan all along.

Richard Harrow confirmed what a stone cold motherfucker he is when he suggested killing the D'Allesio's mother, sister, and non-criminal brother to get them to come out of hiding.

I've grown to really like this Richard Harrow character. He talks a little like Karl "Sling Blade" Childers - he starts or ends his sentences with a "ahem." It's damn catchy! And the fact that he's a murdering machine with a hard heart of loyalty adds cream to the dessert.

He's easily one of the greatest characters on TV ever. That character is worth watching the show alone.

Agreed! He needs more screen time.

Re: Boardwalk Empire -- "Paris Green" -- 11/28/10

I'm not surprised Nucky fired Eli (for reasons I'm not sure about, Nucky once said to Jimmy: "there are things i need to talk with you about that I don't feel comfortable saying to Eli." Why, I don't know.

But I was a little surprised that he wants to support that undersheriff - I know Nucky thinks very little of him, and Jimmy once said to Nuck: "I can run circles around that guy, you should hire me."

Well, maybe Nucky will push for Jimmy to be Undersheriff to what's-his-face, then in two or four years (however long the post runs), he'll get rid of what's-his-face and Jimmy will be Sheriff.

I think it's maybe another aspect of Nucky having ultimate control over a position. Sure that moron is the sheriff, but ultimately he'll still just be doing whatever Nucky wants him to. He doesn't seem to like people talking back to him, which I'm assuming their fight was the impetus to Eli's final removal.

With Eli "Out," I wonder what he'll do within the series? Plot against Nucky? That actor is too good to be wasted. I like Eli a lot.

Every time I see Richard I cant help but wonder why he painted his mustache on the other side of the mask?
Wouldn't it have just been easier to not have a mustache?

Maybe he had it painted on without thinking about it, and doomed himself to having to maintain the real thing on the other half. Maybe he had the look for a while before the injury and didn't want to change. Who knows.

Either way, damn what a great character in the series.

I figure she'll just tell him she "changed her mind, that she realizes she loves him, etc, etc." He'll have to believe her, because she came back. He will forgive her, but he will probably ask what was so wrong that she had thoughts about leaving.

I figured Jimmy got the note, figured out who was involved, then "disappeared" the photographer and his girlfriend.

He didn't have time. Plus he would've had to clear out all their stuff, too.

They definitely stiffed her.
