That crowd reaction is insane:

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
Whether I press "05" for NBC or "47" for TBS on my cable remote... I'm still pressing two buttons to watch Conan. Wow, such a difference (not).

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
I'm shocked that Conan would go back to TV at all, to be honest. Cable is a dying industry. It'll be around for years to come, no doubt about that, but eventually we'll all be watching video over the internet.
I guess he wanted the money. Can't blame him. |

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
I think it came down to two factors on O'Brien choosing TBS for his new 2300 hours ET show:
1) He doesn't force the Fox network to do the very expensive process of clearing time at 11:00 pm locally for the show for every Fox affiliate. People forget that in the spring of 1993, even with David Letterman's name recognition it took a LOT of convincing (and some arm-twisting!) by CBS to get most of its affiliates to carry The Late Show with David Letterman by the time that show premiered. 2) TBS is available in both standard definiition and high definition forms on satellite TV and most cable systems across the USA, which means most anyone with a cable subscription can see the show anyway. |

Lopez has fanboys?

The point is though, that even if Conan did bump him, or even got the network to fire him, you wouldn't hear a thing about it.

TBS does suck. Why couldn't it at least be TNT? I mean that station is at least a little bit more respectable. TBS is forever known to me as playing Saved by the Bell reruns.
It must have been a really good deal if he went to TBS. |

It's not like the two are mutually exclusive. Conan's show streamed on Hulu when he was on NBC. Lopez Tonight is available on the TBS site, albeit broken up into clips. So Conan, being on TBS, will be viewable on the internet as well, not to mention possibly VOD from various cable companies.

That's a good point. Since Conan now owns his show, he can basically do whatever he wants with it as long as he honors the five-year deal to broadcast it on TBS.
http://articles.latimes.com/2010/apr...an13-2010apr13 As part of his deal with Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting to host a late-night show on TBS, O'Brien will have ownership of the show. That will give him the potential to make a lot more money then if he were just a hired hand hosting a show owned by a network. O'Brien's deal is for five years. |

Looks like somebody tried to make a funny and was quickly shot down so had to go with hypothetical humor. Oh, and then threw in a mention of not caring even though he bothered to post in the thread. These scenarios always make me chuckle. |
Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
He's being allowed to own this show and material, unlike just "working" for a show already owned by a network. So he can stand to make more money than had he stayed on The Tonight Show.

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
I don't see why poeple give a shit he's going to be on TBS. Set your DVR, watch the show... I don't understand why seeing a TBS logo instead of any other matters.
|
Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
I care slightly, because I don't have cable, but I'm rarely up that late anyway. (I don't care that he's on TBS specifically though)
|
Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
I enjoy watching TBS and very happy that Conan will be back on TV. And I think it shows a lot of class that he did not pursue the offers till he got a green light of support from George Lopez.
|
Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
People are being absolutely retarded over the fact that he's going with TBS. "Oh if it were FOX or TNT I'd watch... but TBS? Forget it." Does anyone really care more about the channel over the program they're watching? If, say, "Mad Men" was broadcast on WGN instead of AMC, would it automatically be an inferior show? Are people really that idiotic? ABC was once viewed as a third-rate, inferior network too... 40 years ago. Get out of the Stone Age already.

For me, I don't have cable anymore. I just don't find it worth the $1000/year price when almost all the shows I watch are on local channels or the Internet. That's why I won't watch Conan now. Because I can't. :( |

I'm still waiting for anyone to explain exactly why TBS sucks so bad that they would not watch Conan's show simply because it's on TBS. I genuinely don't get it and would like to understand.

Certainly not something that you would see at the opening of a tour of any big name star.

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
Some more AMAZING crowd shot footage from last night's show; it just goes to show you how rare Conan (and Craig Ferguson) are. I could never picture a Leno, a Letterman, or even the late great, Carson going out on stage and having that much fun:

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
It's killing me to not watch those videos, but I'm worried there will be a bunch of skit crossover on the tour and don't want to ruin anything I'll get to see live. :(
Going around with all the writers should allow them to stay pretty topical and current though. Which is great! |

Re: Conan Picks Networks and it's....TBS
I'm disappointed that too many people still give this  to the idea of "Team CoCo" joining TBS.
As I said earlier, we're forgetting that TBS is generally available in the Extended Basic or Extended Digital Basic tier of most cable systems and available in most packages for DirecTV and Dish Network in both standard definition and high definition channels. As such, O'Brien is going to have a potentially very large audience anyway when his new show starts in November 2010. |
