Jimmy and Richard's scenes were the only interesting part of the ep for me.

Meh. I thought the last episode was fantastic and made me decide to watch the rest of this rather slow and boring show. Unfortunately, this episode was back to form.

I just don't know what to think of this show, and I am wondering why I am still watching it? It has to be cause I love mob movies/ period drama's, and the macro story does interest me. But I have to say I really don't care about any of the characters, and I think that is the shows biggest flaw. The characters are interesting, but I just haven't gravitated to any of them.

The complaints here are the same complaints I remember hearing during the last two or three seasons of The Sopranos - too slow, too boring, et al. The show, like The Sopranos, was building towards something - and I think shows like this view better back-to-back (think DVD's), it's like a long movie. You can't have the third act showing all throughout. You gotta build character. I think they're doing a great job with the "Jimmy" character - he's my favorite, so far - I'd like to see where his character-arc winds up.

I actually like the overall story of the show (love the time period too), so that is kind of keeping me interested and watching every week. I just can't gravitate to any characters (but if I had to pick Jimmy would be my favorite). Any show I watch on a regular basis, there is always one or two characters that I love and kind of enjoy seeing what arc the writer is going with. I think the characters maybe the weakest part of the show, IMO.

I think we are building twords Jimmy getting called back to AC to face the federal music, and saving Nuckie who is in over his head with the NY'ers trying to topple him.

I think Nucky is lying about his baseball glove. He probably never had an autographed glove...his reaction to the glove when the widow Schroeder brought it up (frank startlement, then sudden remembrance) seemed to be the same reaction he gave her about the cake she baked for him, the one she threw in the garbage. When she asked him about the cake, he gave frank startlement, then sudden remembrance, and said it was delicious. She knew he was lying then, so I wonder if she thinks he's lying now.

Jimmy can't get arrested or killed...he's a focal character. Although, so was Big Pussy from the Sopranos, so who the hell knows? The only character we can be sure about remaining is Nucky Thompson.

what was the deal with Commodore last night? is he plotting against Nucky? oh and 1920's lesbos rule!

I love the Nucky/Widow Schroeder scenes so this episode worked for me. Keeping the FBI agent to a minimum works well for me as well.

The lesbian wife complained that she didn't get any money from Jimmy...but I thought we saw him put money in an envelope for his wife and son. Did he not mail it?

I was thinking he sent it to nucky to give to her, and nucky conveniently leaving out the part it was from jimmy.

And the real historical figures. I like seeing Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Johnny Torrio, Meyer Lansky and Arnold Rothstein. But you already know they're not gonna get whacked.

Maybe it was pocketed by Jimmy's Mom? Perhaps to keep the wife more dependent on her?

Because she hasn't gotten anything from Jimmy. I'm guessing that Gretchen Mol (while she's babysitting) is hiding the mail from Jimmy. She's already hinted that Jimmy probably won't come back and suggested that the girl take off and leave everything behind. I'm not entirely sure what her motives are.

I'm really digging Jimmy's character. Al is one-dimensional compared to this guy.

They won't get whacked, but they could "go back" to their own regions and leave the show. After all, they're not based in Atlantic City - only Nucky Thompson (Johnson) is/was. Sure, if Lucky and Meyer are there (for the time being), then we might expect the likes of Bugsy Siegel showing up, too. But we can't count on any of that.

I'm almost wondering, out of all the Prohibition gangsters to choose from, why they would choose Nucky Johnson from Atlantic City? I mean, unless you read all the gangster books (he's mentioned, almost as a gesture, in Lucky Luciano's autobiography), you'd have never heard of him. I'm no expert on gangsters, but I've heard of the "big ones" like Lucky and Capone and Meyer....even Arnold Rothstein would have been an obvious choice for the lead (even though he gets assassinated before 1930).

I'm just surprised they decided to put all their eggs in Nucky Johnson and Atlantic City. It seems so "limited," but then again, they're just "making up stories," so history could be a revision within this show.

The Jimmy character is showing more depth than I thought was possible after seeing him in the Pilot episode. He's subtle, he's smart, he's tortured....Nucky was wrong to overlook him, to not've made him Undersheriff. He forced Jimmy's hand to pull that hijacking - he told Jimmy, "you want an opportunity? This is America, who's stopping you?" What else did he expect Jimmy to do? Bad move, since Torrio is starting to respect Jimmy.

Coming off of one of the most action-packed, ruthless episodes of the season, this was an entirely altruistic affair for just about every character. Loved all the stuff with Richard and Jimmy.
