It's not set to air on the BBC until 2012, due to various production delays, so it's not likely to air on PBS before then either.

Re: Sherlock (BBC) begins tonight on PBS...
I just finished watching this series on Netflix. I didn't expect to like it, but it's actually one of the best bits of TV I've seen in a while. My only major dislike was the Moriarty character, who came across as some entry-level stockbroker douchebag, rather than any kind of criminal genius.
Actually, I'd say that though the character interactions are all written wonderfully, the mysteries themselves are a bit of a weak spot. I wouldn't say any of the three cases were brilliant brain-teasers you'd rave about just for the plot (how the one body got on the train tracks was quite clever, but that was more of a sub-plot).

Although not presented in quite the same way, having sometimes been updated for the modern age, and occasionally segued together, quite a few of the plots derive from the original Conan Doyle stories. It has been ages since I read the source material but IIRC quite a few of those short stories were fairly slight. It was more about the characters and the setting.

First episode of second series premieres January 1st (then 8th and finale on the 15th) and comes to the States on PBS in May.
Is there any (legal and easy) way to watch BBC programming?
If not, and if anyone has any interest on going 50/50 on the blu-ray or dvd being released on January 23, send me a pm. You can keep the blu or dvd after. I love the show and don't really want to wait til May.

I hate all of you. Awesome to hear that the quality of the 1st series has carried over to the 2nd series.
Anyone in the states that wants to go 50/50 (and you can keep the dvd) on the UK dvd release Jan. 23, send me a pm. If you don't have an all region dvd player, vlc player can play any dvd off your laptop.

Didn't really care with what they did to the Irene Adler character.

I have watched all four episodes of this a couple times over the last few weeks. Amazing show that blows the awful Guy Ritchie interpretations out of the water. I thought the cliffhanger was amazing, then they came back and wowed me even more with the series two premiere.

I have such a thing for Lara Pulver now. Just finished seeing the last season of Spooks, and now she's Irene Adler, who's character is a hell of a step up from Rachel McAdams interpretation. Great first episode of the second season. And I love that text tone, funny as hell.

Cumberbatch had an interesting thing to say about a potential Season 3. It vaguely, albeit maddeningly, references the S2 finale, but beware just the same.

She is pretty skinny though. You could see the ribs above her bust in the episode.

Another amazing story this week. Not quite as much fun as episode one, but still enjoyable.
But what to make of that final scene?

Spoiler:
I took the final scene as a kind of preview or lead-in for next weeks finale. We'll see.
