I do not like the Amy character, and I certainly don't like the completely unrealistic relationship. I was glad when I thought it was over. That game they were playing at the beginning was so ridiculously over the top and stupid.
The only bright spot was Raj being obnoxious to Penny after a few brews.

Pretty mediocre episode. Still hate Amy, and I thought Raj was a bit too obnoxious then we're used to that made it feel out of place. The only bit I liked was the $20 at the end.

They lose points for calling "Shamy" an "amalgam" rather than a "portmanteau."

Terrible episode. I don't know who said it last week but, yeah, the zanier they make the characters to pander to the audience, the worse this show gets/is going to get.
First time I've felt that way about this show, btw.

Yeah, I think those complaints are warranted. I love the Sheldon character, but sometimes it's too much.

I agree -- probably the worst episode of the series. And I've been a fan of this show since the pilot. The only redeeming moment was Sheldon's mom at the end.
They have to flush this Amy character down the toilet. Fast. Absolutely nothing funny about her.

I couldn't agree more with you guys. This is my favorite sitcom on right now and its been terrible the last 2 weeks (first episode was pretty good).

I wouldn't write Amy off totally. While I'm not sure I trust a Lorre-helmed show to be this sophisticated, there is a chance she is written to be offputting to us right now for a specific reason.
More likely, they already paid the actress for a set number of episodes and are stuck with her a while longer.

Mark my words, at some point in the show's future, someone will invent either an invisibility cloak, a shrinking machine, or freeze ray.
Or maybe Sheldon will build a transporter, and there will be an accident leaving two Sheldons running around. Wackiness ensues.

I watched the previous seasons in DVD/BR this summer and loved the show. Sadly it seems this has been the worst season.

Does anybody know of significant changes in the writing staff that might account for a dip in quality? Are some decent BBT writers off writing Mike & Molly or something?

They should lose Raj not speaking around women unless he's drinking. That's starting to get annoying.

Re: The Big Bang Theory -- "The Zazzy Substitution" -- 10/07/10
I don't get the issue people have with Raj not speaking around women. It's a character trait. If it were a situation where they were making it more ridiculous as they went along, I'd understand. It's not. It's the same as it always was.
I'm not certain they'd be wise to change it, either. I could see a lot of BBT detractors citing that as some sort of jump the shark moment given the general tone of BBT threads the past 6-8 months or so.

Get rid of Amy... fast! The Sheldon character is over-used and just too much all the time, we really don't need more of it - even if it's in vagina form.
Let's get Raj, Howard and Leonard out and about with some storylines WITHOUT Sheldon already. The show desperately needs more balance.

Re: The Big Bang Theory -- "The Zazzy Substitution" -- 10/07/10
The fact that Raj is the least geeky of the group is a big reason why it's a problem to mess with the things like social awkwardness around women that give his character some definition. If he talks to women under normal circumstances, he starts to lose touch with this group of friends.
I could imagine them rationalizing it that Penny is like "one of the guys" to him, but I'd suggest being very careful about how they did that given the way people are turning on the show (and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's all unjustified).

I'm perfectly fine with Raj still not speaking in front of women. I don't think they should lose that at all.

I agree. It's time to grow the character at least a little bit. He seems to be the least geekiest of the group and has some charm, so the shyness around women (to that degree anyways) seems to be stretching it. At the very least, have Raj become comfortable speaking around Penny (since he should be used to her by now) and keep his shyness around other women.

However if they do open him up to Penny I think it needs to be a Silent Bob type moment where he just blows her mind, and not a simple slip of the tongue.

I've been worried for a couple of seasons about the Sheldon character. I knew that once he became more popular, the show would jam him down our throats to the point of disgust. He is close to becoming a caricature instead of a character.

I thought this episode was on par with previous seasons, but then again, I don't expect anything out of this show. It's a guilty pleasure.

This.
Every start of the season I read all these threads and it's the same thing every year "terrible episode" "didn't laugh once" "simply awful" etc etc. After a few weeks, I tend to stop reading these threads and just enjoy the shows
