I'm hoping they'll scale back on the Hawaiiana 101 but I doubt it. All that ground was covered back during Magnum PI's run. I'm waiting for the episode where SPAM plays a key role in solving a crime.

I'm waiting until Danno complains to McGarrett about eating short ribs & macaroni for the xxth time and wants a burger for a change.

Hopefully this episode will be an improvement over last weeks.
If they slow the show down a bit (less needless chases, fast dialogue, shaky camera movements and quick cuts), stop composing shot's where the Chevy cars are the focus over the characters, and tone down the music, this could turn out to be a decent show. If not, then not even my man crush on O'Loughlin will get me to stick around for this show in the long run.

So ...is Grace Park's character "Kono" or "Kona"? The original character played by "Zulu" was "Kono", but the pre-show hype was that the producers "feminized" the name to "Kona". However, it sounds like they're calling her "Kono". The IMDB currently lists her name both ways on their "Hawaii 5-0" page.

Fun episode. The hour flew by fast. And yes Blu Man, they did tone the episode. There was only 2 shootouts (both minor) and this episode had a little more detective work and character development involved. I liked that they introduced Kona and Chin Ho's cousin and gave a little more back story about Chin and him being accused of being a dirty cop. I would like to see Sid again in a future episode.
I met the co-writer of this episode Carol Barbee a few years ago at a TV/Comic covention in Los Angeles when she was showrunner on Jericho. Very nice lady and I'm glad she's continuing to get work. I assume she probably got this gig from working with Alex on Three Rivers last season.
James Russo must be typecasted by every casting director in Hollywood as a mobster. I'm sure he doesn't mind getting the work.
Again, show looks great in HD and I love the scenics around Waikiki. When I went to Hawaii a few years ago, I went to that International Market Place where McGarrett chased that guy early in the show. It's pretty much just a tourist trap with junk souvenirs.
And to top it off, we get Grace Park in a skimpy red robe undercover as a cocktail waitress.

During the final scene did it look like the editing was off or was it maybe my feed. Seemed like there were multiple takes and Scott Caan jumped at least twice.

This case doesn't seem like it would fit in with a "Special" police unit and could have been handled by the regular PD.
If they are going to really get into the Hawaiian scene they need a little more underlying racist comments towards the "Haoles"

Did anyone notice in that Football home video at the end that the player who was supposedly McGarrett had his last name blurred out on the back of the jersey?

I would expect there's going to be no rhyme or reason to their cases. For example, they handled that case in the previous episode that would obviously be a federal investigation.

Yeah, you can't expect too much realism from a show like this. I remember a Law & Order episode when Lenny and his partner were investigating a subway gassing. I doubt that kind of thing would be left to a couple of city homicide detectives.

I'm pretty sure a governor can't give you immunity to torture guys who have been shot, or put American citizens in shark tanks either.
Don't think too much!
(Or, go watch Boardwalk Empire, then when you don't want to think too much, come back to Hawaii Five-O.)

This show just has a ton of style, and is simply fun to watch. I look forward to it every week.
I liked the suddenness of the shootout, though it looked like a referee was down. I must have missed that if they mentioned other people were hit.
I also like Scott Caan a lot. He handles the humor and the emotional stuff well, but I've liked him since Ocean's 13 specifically...really nailed the humor in that one.
Looking forward to next week!

I've really enjoyed this show so far. They have excellent cast chemistry, especially for a new show. It's not realistic, but it is entertaining.

MUCH better then last week. Decent episode, I liked how they slowed it down quite a bit and focused on the cop work and character relationships while still giving the audience the action they demand. Its my hope that the show will continue along this path and not revert back to the style of last weeks episode.

Not sure how many more episodes we will watch.
Nauseating camera work, chases and shoot outs that happen jumping from scene to scene, weak chemistry with the cast. Are they even "police" at all? They simply seem to be the Governor's hired vigilantes.

The 'chemistry' seems rather forced to me, at least between McGarrett and Dano.
