Synopsis: Spoiler:
Like Terriers, this is another gem that apparently noone is watching, especially this forum. 2 more episodes left this season after tonight. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
I'm still catching up from when I was on vacation a few weeks ago, all I have is last weeks left to go, but the B-story with his team tracking the terrorist is about 1000x more interesting than the conspiracy.

I love this show. Too bad the lack of explosions and very 1970s pacing leaves the morons who populate the Nielsen families gasping for breath. I applaud AMC for sticking with it, even though it should have been obvious that the subject and pacing of this show destined it for low ratings.
I've read accusations that Nielsen throws out viewing diaries that are "too different" from the average, on the theory that outliers are intentionally fraudulent. If true, it's no wonder shows like this can't gain traction in the ratings. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
This is one of the few shows I give my undivded attention to. For those of us who have stuck with the show, I think it's really paying off lately. It's fascinating wathcing the story unfold (or come together, as it were).

AMC is establishing itself as a mini-HBO when it comes to their original programming. I hope they keep it up. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
I caught the first 4 episodes and then got behind, but I've DVR'd them all. I decided I would just do a marathon once the season is complete.
I liked what I saw of the show during those 4 episodes, so I can't wait to watch the whole thing through. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
I caught up today through last Sunday. It's an interesting show, but I can definitely see why it isn't catching on. It's slow moving and slightly confusing at times. Most people would never stick with it long enough to give it a chance. In a way it's like the Wire (it's not nearly that good, but it does Isiah Whitlock) in that it requires attention.

Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
Great episode tonight! Things are coming to a head. The next two episodes should be really good as everything plays out.
Low ratings or not, it's hard to imagine a second season of Rubicon, unless the interoffice intrigue is left unresolved this season--which I hope isn't the case. Without that level of paranoia, it wouldn't be the same. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
Shouldn't Kale and The Cleaner have been worried that someone heard the gunshot and called the police? Or that neighbors would come by to complain about the loud music?
That aside, this was a terrific episode - certainly the liveliest. Now that Kale knows Spangler tried to kill Will, I wonder what he'll do. He's such an inscrutable character, I'm never sure what his motives are. Things are coming together now. Can't wait for the last 2 episodes. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
It sucks to be Will
1) Spangler ordered a hit on him 2) He had to cruelly dump the hot and willing neighbor |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
So I guess they made it obvious that
Spoiler:
It is going to be interesting when Will passes Spangler in the hall at work. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
I absolutely love this show and this episode was probably one of the best. I can't wait for the last two.
I would love for Rubicon to get a 2nd season, but like a previous poster said, without the inter-office politics and intrigue... and now attempted murder, I don't know what they would do. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
For a guy who can figure out there's a coded message in a crossword puzzle, it's hard to believe Will couldn't pick up something was up when Spangler visited his office.
Good episode. I liked Spangler finally losing his cool when he called the last number dialed on Will's phone. |
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
Will's soft skills are still being honed. Being an analyst doesn't lend itself to reading humans for patterns like in crossword puzzles. Will is no Kal (Lie to Me).

Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
How did Will know it was Spangler who tried to have him killed and not Cale? Why did he dump his neighbor cuddle buddy?
|
Re: Rubicon -- "A Good Day's Work" -- 10/03/10
Kale has been helping him sort things out a-la "Deep Throat". Why would he help Will and then try to kill him? And despite what a previous poster said, I think Will is smart enough to see the difference in character between Kale and Spangler. Spangler definitely comes off as a very strange dude.
He dumped her for her own good. Being involved with Will right now could get a girl killed. |
