I loved the symbolism of the last shot in this week's episode.
Nucky bringing muddy footprints into his clean building -- I took it to mean one of two things: 1) his previously clean operations are starting to get messy or 2) in reference to his "I'm not God" comment, he brings muddy footprints into his home like any other man.

I really like Michael Shannon's character in this series. He's the most enjoyable to watch.

I'm sure the likes of Joe Pesci, Nicky Santoro, Martin Scorsese, and Tommy DeSimone had a "first-time" with that word as well. They heard it, they tasted its wares, they allowed the word to roll off their tongues, and before long, it became their world of choice.

Yeah I dont think the garlic eaters had anything to do with it. As they made it clear this was Doyle's problem and all they want is their money.

Yeah, that was a funny joke at logic's expense. Nucky knows what "fuck" is, even as a verb. Therefore he knows what a fucker is. He's probably smart enough to then figure out what "motherfucker" means, even if he has no idea why one person would call another one that. For Nucky to say "what's a motherfucker" is disingenuous to the character. A more appropriate response would have been "Did he just say I fucked my mother?

I really hope this show starts becoming interesting, because the only thing that's keeping me watching so far are the beautiful period sets and costumes. And the naked women, that's also a plus.
But the characters and plots are still cardboard "gangster" caricatures and it just doesn't feel like there's anything compelling happening yet.

That would suck soooo bad. It wouldn't even be interesting in this day and age if it was presented in a soap opera.

I like that they're showing us glimpses (abeit fictional) of Al Capone and Lucky Luciano, who "were" gangsters. Those guys put the "cardboard" in gangster, after all. Before those guys, we really didn't have that much so far as American gangsters. They laid the mold.
Or, I should say, they created the gangster genre. They made it fashionable, so it is only fitting that this show play out on their terms, not ours.
