Just caught the second episode. This is one of those shows that strikes me as mostly shit, but there's maybe five minutes worth of interesting stuff to keep me going (for the time being). Here's hoping...

This episode was so much better than the pilot. I have no idea how they didn't air these two together. Not only do I think it would have a larger audience, but it likely would have retained more going into the following week. Regardless, for NBC these days the ratings are big numbers.

Still really like Sean and his story. He seems to be reacting in a manner that a regular person might. I feel sorry for his girl, especially with both her parents getting killed over this.

The FBI/alien/time traveler (I too think they could be from the distant future and not necessarily not of this world) is shaping up to be an interesting character.

I'm about to get angry at the President. I already hate the dork with the glasses since all he does is spew bile like many past 24 character, but the President is headed down the same path. I hope he stays a level headed rational character.

Looking forward to episode 3.

I didn't expect to like the show, but I've really enjoyed these first two.

As DB Sweeney is in this episode can we assume the shows cancellation soon?!

I thought I'd give this show another shot. Now I see this show is just Lost combined with V:

- a plane full of people mysteriously disappears (Lost)
- material is presented to the audience out of chronological order (Lost)
- aliens landed on Earth long ago and have been secretly living among us (V)
- the alien leader is a woman who seems to be "of peace, always" (V)

Not impressed with their writing so far, especially the dialog.

Have it all figured out after only 2 episodes huh? Impressive.

They never tried to hide the fact that it has elements of both Lost and 24--they even promoted that aspect but just because the plot MIGHT involve aliens doesn't mean that it has any similarities to V.

The "alien" leader in The Event doesn't appear to be even slightly similar to the alien leader in V other than they both appear to be female.

Finally watched the pilot and this, really enjoying it so far. So far so good as far as ratings are concerned? Just want to try not to get too invested if it's going to get canceled.

Didn't they say their DNA is different from humans? So if they're not humans and they're not aliens, what are they? Very evolved apes?

They could be time travelers, either from the far future or the very distant past. They could be descendants of early humans or hominids taken taken by aliens that were fleeing the aliens, or working for them as scouts. They could be victims of "The Event" who came back (forward, from, through) it to prevent it from occurring.

I don't think anything in this show is straightforward enough for them just to be "aliens".

They said their DNA was only a little different -- 1%. They also made the point that chimps are only 2% different (I thought it was closer to 5% but anyway). This 1% can easily be explained by the natural or artificial evolution (or both) of a future human. But definitely not alien.

[Edit]Chimp DNA difference does seem to be about 5%:

I must have missed those promos or press releases that said they were going to copy elements of those shows. At least they're honest about "borrowing" from other shows. But I don't know... It's one thing for a show like Flashforward to have an Oceanic Airlines billboard in the background as a nod to Lost, but making a jet liner mysteriously disappear in the pilot of this show is just a direct rip off of Lost. That was the big event in both shows. I'm not sure I'm cool with that.

Really? Just because it has a crashing airplane this show is a "rip-off" of Lost? Even though their post-crash stories are about as different as black is to white? According to this logic, Lost must then must be a rip-off of "United 93" which must be a rip-off of "Cast Away" which must be a rip-off of "Alive" which must be a rip-off of "Final Destination" which must be a rip-off of countless other movie and TV shows that had an airplane crash. Because they're really, really rare.

The promos before the pilot described it as a mix of 24 and Lost.

I don't know that I would include these two with fictional stories.

I said this show features a jet liner mysteriously disappearing in the pilot episode... just like Lost. In none of the movies you listed did the planes disappear/crash/blow up because of mysterious forces like electromagnetic energy being released as the plane flew overhead or a blob of energy/worm hole (whatever) suddenly appearing in the plane's flight path. I guess I'm wondering why the producers chose a plane (as opposed to some other form of transportation) for their sci-fi/adventure show so soon after the success of another one that already did that.
