It's cool that they addressed the Katy/Elmo issue, but I think they could have been a bit more clever about it. Having her come out in a low cut Elmo shirt is too easy of a shot.

They referenced something very topical with out ever actually addressing it.
If you didn't know anything about the Katy/Elmo video, the sketch still made perfect sense. If you did know about it, the bouncing boobs in the Elmo shirt was dead-on. Plus, it makes what otherwise would have been a nothing sketch into a viral video.

I guess that's the thing. Why beat around the bush? They could have addressed the issue head on. As it is, what was said in the sketch was echoed in the YouTube comments of the actual Sesame Street video, hundreds of times, by people who aren't getting paid to write the funny. Seems lazy to me.

Not to mention Sesame Street had already said "We'll bring her back for something else".
There was never any need to overdo the situation. But by the same token, to not mention it all would have been crazy, so they knew enough to go "Oh yeah, we have to include it" but they didn't have to do anything over the top.

Has anyone here ever bought SNL from the iTunes store? The episodes are shorter (this saturday's is 53 mins) according to the iTunes site but I'm thinking that they're only missing the musical performances due to music-rights issues? Is this correct? I can deal without seeing Katy Perry on stage (as long as I get the Elmo skit) but I'm hoping they don't remove any of the actual show's material.

The better question is, how does Lorne michaels keep his job. Meyers is not funny, but at least he works hard. Lorne just either approves or rejects sketches. That guy is the luckiest bastard on tv. Living off the genius of Murray, belushi and Ackroyd from 35 years ago.

I love Cranston so will give next week a chance, but I really can watch an episode of SNL in about 15-30 minutes depending on if I want to see the Musical Guest. So much awfulness.
