Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

And they said the minstrel show was dead...

But in all seriousness, that was exactly what I expected. Riddled with stereotypes and sitcom cliches. I'll check it out again next week (mainly because I watch The Office and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and there's nothing else on in between) in hopes that they've gotten it all out of their system, but I imagine we'll see more of the same.

I do like Asha (Rebecca Hazlewood) as the eye candy of the show though.

I give you credit for at least being honest. It really was something awful.

I won't. One thing is to base in on stereotypes. But to have to explain each stereotype is too much.

That was terrible. I gave it a chance, but I'm done with it...

Meh. I might watch it once more just to see if it improves, but nothing here to make it must-see TV.

Fucking. Horrible. Kath & Kim was a laugh riot compared to this poo vomit.

I did the same exact thing. DVR'ed them all and watched them from least to most favorite (30-->Office-->Parks-->Community). By the time I got to Community it was usually Friday, so I'd have a Joel McHale double feature with Community and The Soup.

None of the characters were funny.

Didn't like it. Want P & R back. With 30 Rock getting off to a good start, those are going to be my 2 NBC shows for Thursday.

It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, but agree with any foregoing opinions that it is going to have to go in some more interesting directions quickly to have any chance to work as a series.

Does it matter?

I saw it, thought it was pretty boring. I'll give it another episode or two.

I have.

The movie was a sweetly funny indy that was less about economic dislocation than the rewards and difficulties of overcoming significant cultural gaps. However, Ken Kwapis, who developed the TV show, had absolutely nothing to do with the film, and it shows. In his hands, said film's charms have devolved to mere caricature.

All the Indians, aside from Rebecca Hazlewood's character Asha, come off as nothing more than dysfunctional weirdoes, incapable of even the most basic form of social interactions. As expected, the Americans are simplistically portrayed as brash and culturally ignorant.

Meh.

Bring on P&R!

What's wrong with a little realism

When I happen across a pile of dog shit, I don't have to see the dog to know that the feces stinks.

Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

I hope this show disappears, never to be heard from again.

The premise offends me. Isn't it bad enough the real thing occurs. Do we need to rub it in the American workforce's collective face by producing this horribly executed TV show?

Sorry to get all political, but I really, really hate that this thing was made at all.

Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

There were some mildly humorous parts, but after recently watching much better work shows like Better of Ted, it was definitely lacking. I'm actually having trouble seeing where future story lines will lead ... it seems like a one-note premise and the gong has already been struck .....

I wonder how much money they wasted on badly faking that rickshaw scene.

Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

I found the show pretty bland. The only part that really rubbed me the wrong way was how they were acting like Indian food was so bad, will make you sick, etc. Ummm, I go out for Indian food several times a week. Eating the food there would be the highlight of living there. So I found that pretty insulting and I am not even Indian.

That said, I did get a huge craving for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after watching this.

Re: Outsourced -- New Series -- "Pilot" -- 09/23/10

My gripe is that they conveniently were able to get the call center up to speed with Americanisms in the FIRST episode. This should have taken many episodes, as the cultural differences and cluelessness would have been played for comedy. Instead, everyone seems to fully understand .. now what? I liked the show, but I fail to see where they can go with this (other than the attempts of the Indian "manager" to get the job for his own).

Love triangle obviously! Which will then send the other American dude into a frenzy over the Australian girl and he'll be sabotaging the main guy. Sound about right?

I go there for work and found this part to be pretty funny. I love Indian food, but cafeteria food is bad around the world.
