How many current shows have someone faking an American accent?

With Alex O'Loughlin starring in the new Hawaii Five-0, it made me think about fake accents.

Hugh Laurie on House

Stephen Moyer on True Blood
Ryan Kwanten on True Blood
Alexander Skarsgård on True Blood

Charlie Hunnam on Sons of Anarchy

DEY TUK ER JOBS!

If I didn't know, I wouldn't have been able to tell. Who else?

Most of them also "fake" being doctors and lawyers, just so you know.

Yeah, you're right. They shouldn't hire non-Americans.

Gabrielle Anwar plays an Irish born character, so she's not faking an American accent. And Trebek? Really?

Based on past experience with you I figure you're taking a piss. Anyway, they should let actors use their natural accents or hire actors who don't have accents.

I've always wondered what would HOUSE MD would have been like if Laurie used his British accent. I'll take a beautiful Brit or Aussie accent over some boring American accent any day.

That might be alright for House, where I doubt his nationality has any significant impact on his character (Maybe it does? I don't watch the show.), but when characters are specifically written to be Americans they can't speak with an obvious foreign accent, such as in the case of FBI agent Olivia Dunham. In that case, I'm sure they chose the best actress for the part; she just happened to not be an American. If she can fake the correct accent her nationality shouldn't prevent her from getting the role.

a lot of americans have a hard time understanding british accents. i assume thats a major reason they have them speak wth an american accent.

Re: How many current shows have someone faking an American accent?

I read somewhere that producers like to cast Aussie and English actors in American roles because they actually do a better job acting. Alot of them are classically trained from the theatre and I think that helps their performances.

I don't think he's trying to cover up his accent...

Alex O'Loughlin in Hawaii 5-0.

Kind of the opposite of this, but last night my wife and I were watching The Big C, and it was the first time my wife had seen something with Idris Elba not using an American accent. She was surprised he was really British.

That reminds me of the Bionic Woman reboot in which Michelle Ryan faked an American accent and then in one episode had to go undercover as a Brit and use her real accent
