I love that they kept the original theme song and had almost identical (but updated) opening credits. That was always the best part of the old show. I'm even on board with Kono being a girl, especially a girl who looks like that). I only hope it doesn't get into the "CSI:Miami" level of absurdity and turn McGarrett into another Horatio Kane.

Decent pilot. Nothing spectacular but I'll stick with it.
The worst thing about it was Scott Caan's distractingly ridiculous hair.

Anyone think it was funny that they had O'Loughlin, who played a Vampire P.I. in "Moonlight" fight Marsters, who played Spike (Vampire) on Buffy in the final fight?

was pretty much like any other procedural cop show. no way future episodes have as much action, though. damn near a gun battle every 10 minutes. having said that, i thought it wasn't bad. i'll keep watching.

I enjoyed it. The pacing was a little off, it seemed cramped but overall it was fun. I'll stick around.

Meh, I'll guess I'll take the minority view. Nothing special with this show and based on the responses here, incredibly overrated. Mindless gunfights - sheesh....how many can you cram in one hour? A bland lead. But that puts it right in CBS' wheelhouse as far as dramas go. Weird that the supporting players are better known (at least to me) than the lead. It doesn't have the HD presentation beauty of CSI Miami either.
I'll keep recording it, but they'll probably back up. Could always watch re-runs in the summer like I do with CSI Miami.
They're given complete immunity? That's a scary proposition.

Was there this much action on the original show or did they amp it up for the people that can't stand too much plot?

I was only 7 years old when the original one ended back in 1980, but from the little I remember of seeing it in syndication, it didn't even come close to the amount of action this 1st episode had. I recall it was very dialogue heavy. It's tough to compare Cop shows from the 60's/70's to the ones from now. This is a contemporary update, so you have to update the storytelling style to fit this generation of TV viewers, which obviously includes alot of action sequences. And I don't think most of CBS's current audience even remembers the old Five-O vividly unless they are in the mid 40's or older.

It was great seeing some of the episodes on Spike during their marathon a few weeks ago - watched about a half-dozen or so.

I liked the part where Kona (Grace Park) decked the guy who stole her wave.

I just watched this and thought it was pretty good! Compared to the other new shows I've seen so far, this probably has the best chance of keeping its audience.

I thought it was great, the show looked gorgeous! I also couldn't help myself, and had to watch the show intro like 5 times. I love that theme song glad they kept the original.
