I was watching this thinking they cast her perfectly as Betty's daughter. She was great this week and my heart sort of broke for her not getting to stay with Don and having to go back to that hell hole that is her home.

Kinda surprised that there was still no mention of Trudie/Pete's child given the timeline, and particularly considering they spent quite a bit of time on that plot line (e.g. fertility testing, then adoption) both pre and post pregnancy.

Wow, just looked up Jessica Pare and I am shocked she was the girl from Jack & Bobby! She looked so different then - kind of gawky compared to how lovely and model-esque she looks now.

I never would have thought that was the same girl.

The episode felt somewhat uneven compared to the previous few, but it was still good. For once Don's family stuff was the best part of the episode.

What's weirder is that John Slattery (Roger) played Jessica's character's father on "Jack and Bobby".

Like others have said, the death and the mugging were a little contrived - but at least we got some comedy out of the death.

Agreed on Sally... great little actress and I find the character interesting.

I think Pete's had a total of 2 minutes screen time in the last 3 episodes. Some of the minor characters like the secretaries and creative contract people have had much more screen time.

Loved the female theme to this episode... it almost felt like a Pedro Almoldovar film - especially the ending with the music.

Re: Mad Men -- "The Beautiful Girls" -- 09/19/10

The mugging was somewhat ham-handed symbolism for the danger Joan and Roger face for revisiting their past relationship.

Years before, Joan and Roger went to that diner and walked in that neighborhood, and it was charming and safe, and the thrill of doing something illicit led them to amorous encounters in elegant hotel rooms where Roger handed out expensive gifts.

Now, the diner is depressing, and the streets are dangerous, and sex happens in an alley.

And what will happen as a result? Will Joan get pregnant with a baby that is obviously not her husband's child? Will a second marriage end in divorce for Roger?

Or was it a ploy by Roger to get back with Joan?

It's possible that VK has a 10/13 episode contract, and that his one line last week and his background appearance this week are supplemental work.

If Roger was smart, he would have been in the hall outside Joan's apt waiting for the Swedish masseuses to depart

That was different, unless you believe that Roger hired the robber as a ruse.

Actually, I believe Roger hired that woman to find Sally on the train and bring her to the SCDP offices. Roger's plan was that disrupting Don's day would set in motion a chain of events that would inevitably lead to his having sex with Joan. However and tragically, the silver fox miscalculated and his plan led to the death of Miss Blankenship instead.

Elisabeth Moss to divorce Fred Armisen

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss filed for divorce from Saturday Night Live‘s Fred Armisen on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to Entertainment Tonight. Moss, 28, and Armisen, 43, were married last fall.

what WAS she thinking?

I literally laughed out out loud when he wrapped up the secretary in that blanket and they started wheeling her away. I never thought Mad Men would be the show that actually made me do that.

Apologies if this is a repost, but I couldn't stop laughing at this Pete-centric blog. VK really is a terrific actor.

Re: Mad Men -- "The Beautiful Girls" -- 09/19/10

I hate the fact that the New York exteriors for this show are so bad. And when will television/movie people finally realize that Manhattan doesn't have alleys. The mugging was very sloppy for this show -- you immediately knew it was going to happen after Joan's line about the neighborhood having gone downhill.

The Peggy stuff was gold as usual, as was the Miss Blankenship stuff. It's amazing to me that this show does physical comedy as well as it manages to.

You should see her in Hot Tub Time Machine. A gorgeous woman.

Mrs. Blankenship....one of the funniest tv deaths (and aftermath) I've ever seen.

Was surprised to learn that Don's new squeeze Cara Buono (as a brunette) played Chrissy's wife on the last season of The Sopranos. Totally missed that call.

Re: Mad Men -- "The Beautiful Girls" -- 09/19/10

Can anyone help me out with the name of the song playing at the bar when Peggy and Abe are talking? The lyrics are something like "take a look and let me know how I feel, take a look lonely girl"???

Either I'm totally off there, or Google is broken or something.

Re: Mad Men -- "The Beautiful Girls" -- 09/19/10

Sorry, I should have specified: the song playing in the bar after they cut to the Swedish girls arriving at Joan's place. Abe and Peggy are talking about "evil corporations" and Fillmore Auto Parts and civil rights and such.

It sounds like the Beach Boys, but I don't think it's them.
