Who Wants to be a Millionaire - NEW RULES for the 2010 season
The show is played in two rounds now.
First round has 10 questions, I think the amounts are:
$100
$500
$1000
$2000
$3000
$5000
$7000
$10000
$15000
$25000
However, the amounts AND the questions are shuffled into random order so someone can get a really easy question for $25000. Plus, the amounts accumulate, so the contestant can win a lot of money before reaching the one and only milestone. You don't know what the amount of a question is until after the contestant answers.
Besides the Ask-the-Audience lifeline, the contestant also gets 2 Skip-a-Question lifelines. The money for questions skipped does not get added to the total. The Double-Dip is gone, as well as the usually worthless Ask-the-Expert.
The 2nd round has 4 questions leading to the million. Nobody has gotten that far since yesterday, so I don't know if there's anything different there.
Also,
No more facing chairs, contestant is behind a podium with Merdith Vieira standing next to it.
It looks like they've done away with the time limit too.
So far, they've been revealing the answer right away, no dramatic drawing out of the suspense.

I have to admit that whenever I catch this show on anymore, I derive a measure of joy when the contestant screws up on a real easy question.

Does any show need to be in HD? Probably not. Would it look better in HD? Gee, I don't know...Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Price is Right all look fabulous in HD, so I am guessing YES. Who cares? The majority of people who watch it in syndication on HD channels?

Another new rule, if the contestant quits before the 10 questions of the first round are done, they only get half of the accumulated money.

If they wanted to debut a new game show, the least they could have done is give it a new name. I was never a fan of the show, but it deserves better than this slow painful decay.
