Hellcats -- New Series -- "A World Full of Strangers" -- 09/08/10

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
A pre-law student (Aly Michalka) wins a spot on her Memphis university's fiercely competitive cheer squad when, in the opener, she loses her scholarship and goes for an injured member's spot in order to collect another scholarship, which comes with being a Hellcat.

1 of 2 new shows The CW greenlit this Fall. The other being Nikita, which premieres on Thursday.

Tom Welling from Smallville is a Producer on this show.

I know this show kind of show probably doesn't appeal to most of you. But, I figure if it satisfies 2 pieces of criteria:
Cute girls and is occassionally funny, then it could be a good guilty pleasure for me.

Some good reviews from LA Times and Hollywood Reporter:

This actually looks entertaining in a, sleezy Vegas version of Glee kinda way.

The lead girl Aly Michalka, the blonde in the center of the promo photo, is pretty hot and has a great body. So I give them credit for at least casting a hot lead.

CW + cheerleaders should make for great eye candy.

Matt Roush called it an "ABC Family reject". Which means, I can't wait!

No need for Chris Hanson - everyones in college.

If you miss tonights premiere - its being repeated at 8:00 pm ET on Friday.
Next weeks second episode also gets a Friday night repeat - same time.
(Then no more repeats as Smallville returns on Friday, Sept 24.)

I'll be watching....

Even if it were HS cheerleaders, you could be sure that the actresses would be well into their 20s anyhow.

I liked it, but then again I like a lot of the ABC Family shows as well. The tone reminded me of Greek.

I thought it was OK. Good choice for the lead.

I laughed every time they had the silly cheerleader flip transition effect.

Re: Hellcats -- New Series -- "A World Full of Strangers" -- 09/08/10

Seems like a good fit for The CW... Cast is good looking and the lead cheerleader seems to move really well... I don't really know what else to say about a cheerleader based show. It's not like the story lines are going to revolve around them saving the world every other show..

Over all it seems to be some cheesy campy goodness.. Throw in a cat fight or two (or four) and we have us a show! I'll keep watching..

best random line from the one cheerleaders about how they "bench twice our body weight" etc.. errrrrr no you don't.. I mean come on, Ashley Tisdale or girls who have that skinny girl sort of shape are not walking into a gym and throwing a few 45 pound plates on the bar and banging out the reps..

anyone know the name of the song playing during the cheerleader try outs? Searching around for the line -party like a rockstar, shake it like a porn star" just seems to keep returning the rap song "Party like a rockstar".. and that clearly doesn't match up with the song on the show..

Edit.. ah ha.. song is Popstar by Pretty Little Problem..

Re: Hellcats -- New Series -- "A World Full of Strangers" -- 09/08/10

Wow! I was actually really surprised...I dug it alot. Definitely has the same vibe of Greek.

Aly Michalka did a really good job playing Marty. Thought she brought alot of Sassiness and sex appeal to the character. And my goodness, she's got awesome moves and a phenominal body. Liked that they cast Gail O'Grady as her Mom. Although I think she's had 1 too many botox injections, but she still looks good and I think she works as Marty's Mom.

I loved the scene where they poked fun at Bring at On, where she rented the DVD and started doing exaggerated moves.

One thing I was really surprised to see was Savannah (Ashley Tisdale) becoming an ally of Marty so fast, especially after that little cat fight they had earlier in the episode. Not too familiar with Ashley, but she's cute as a button. Not surprised to see Alice become the evil bitch as Marty's taking her spot on the Hellcats.

I think this is going to be a fun little show to add to ABC's comedy block to lighten up Wednesday nighs away from the crime dramas.

This show fits The CW's demographic perfectly.

Re: Hellcats -- New Series -- "A World Full of Strangers" -- 09/08/10

at Gail O'Grady's southern accent and those stupid flipping transitions.

The evil cheerleader is definitely the best looking - very hot.

There were a number of familiar-looking people....some I could place (the coach was on Boston Public, the townie friend was that dumb psycho character from OTH), but other's (coach's boyfriend, the male black cheerleader, the A.D.) I couldn't.

What was with the captain of the team being so nice to Marty? Seemed bizarre. Makes me wonder if she's a lesbian.

Re: Hellcats -- New Series -- "A World Full of Strangers" -- 09/08/10

I kind of hate Aly Michalka's face, which makes the show hard to like - her body is great but I do not dig her features (she's like a cross between the bad years of Brittany Murphy and Anna Lynn McCord). I do like Ashley Tisdale a lot though and despite the heavily forced/predictable/awful plot line, there were enough funny moments (not always intentional) that I'll stick with it for a few weeks.

Oh, so that's where all of Peytons clothes from Season 1-5 of One Tree Hill went! And her hair!

Decent pilot, they just need to drop the corny transitions.

Can't see this one being a ratings hit with little promotion from other CW shows before it (starting the Fall off when this show and not Monday Night shows with promotion for a Wednesday night show just seems dumb). Guess we'll know in a few hours.

I had the same exact reaction - did they cast Peyton's clone....and then they make OTH stalker dude her best friend. Like Peyton, the lead doesn't do much for me. Maybe if she straightened her hair. And throw in another riding-bike clip.

Oh, that's who that guy was! He was also in Harpers Island and that Gossip Girl spinoff that never got picked up.

They need to drop the bike. We get it, she's cool and hip and doesn't need a car.
