RIP Robert Schimmel (1950-2010)
 

Schimmel was a writer on In Living Color, and was a stand up comedian for the past few decades.

The son of Holocaust survivors, Schimmel was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2000, which later went into remission. In January 2008, however, Schimmel announced on Howard Stern that he contracted cirrhosis as a result of a Hepatitis C infection from a blood transfusion that he received while in the Air Force. His cirrhosis had progressed to the point that he was working to be added to the waiting list for a donated liver.

awwwww shit. maybe that was that "personal" call that Howard got last week from his daughter was about. dude just had no luck whatsoever. rollover accident and everyone gets out unscathed and he is the only one who sustains injuries.

He was really funny, and I remember when he would go on Stern and talk about how f'd up his family was.

Schimmel was up there with Hedberg for me. I listened to an album from each a week or so ago.

It's crazy that so much torment can haunt one man his entire life but can come out of it all with the old mantra that laughter is the best medicine. He will be missed.

That fucking blows. I used to listen to his HBO comedy special all the time. Feel doubly bad for his daughter, hope she doesn't beat herself up over this too much.

I just had to tell my mother the news. She used to be friends with Mr. Schimmel and his family so they still know people in common. She got off the phone with me to go call them. His mother in law apparently passed away very recently as well.

Very sad. I always loved him. I remember seeing him for the first time on a Rodney Dangerfield Young Comedians special on HBO. He was so f-ing hilarious. Loved his Stern appearances as well.

I'll miss him.

I'm sad to here this. He was a very talented guy and it's sad that he had to deal with so much to then get taken out like this. :rip:
