Firefly - enough has been said about this one.

Rome - HBO was scared of the budget so they condensed what should have been seasons 2-5 down to a single season 2. Recently HBO execs have admitted that it probably should have kept the show.

Roswell
Dark Angel
Tru Calling
Angel
Undeclared
Freaks and Geeks
Joey
King of the Hill (Although if it wasn't canceled, Brittany Murphy would of died anyway so they would have to replace her characters voice. I still wish it would of continued and continued DVD releases)
The Dead Zone
Dollhouse
Everwood
Ghost Whisperer
My Name is Earl
Joan od Arcadia
The 4400
Andy Richter Controls the Universe

Did you say top ten? How about top 16

I would of included 24 in my list but I think it had a good run and served its time.

I got attached to the show when I ran through it on DVD. The last episode was Christmas episode which was unaired and how could they leave us hanging like that, ugh?

The Simpsons NEVER should have been canceled after the 99-00 season. Sure, Season 11 had a few more clunkers than previous years, but it finished strongly with the "Behind the Laughter" episode.

I am absolutely certain that if FOX hadn't made the worst. decision. ever. The Simpsons could have gone on for another decade and would have kept producing hilarious episodes with no drop in overall quality whatsoever!

Re: Top Ten Tv Shows That Never Should Have Been Cancelled

yeah i didn't add 24 because it did have a great run, would have been nice to have absolute closure for jack, you know just sitting on the beach with his family for once or even just taking a piss break , Dollhouse i didn't add because even though it was rushed they were able to complete the story and give it an exciting ending, not only that but we were very very lucky to even get that second season given it's ratings.

The Black Donnely's I completely forgot about that one, i was so sure that would make it. It was very very good, a great drama that no one seemed to watch lol.

Re: Top Ten Tv Shows That Never Should Have Been Cancelled

If you had followed the news about 24 all last season they purposely left the series finale without closure to launch the film franchise which is being developed.

These are both the same show, and it has never been canceled.

Re: Top Ten Tv Shows That Never Should Have Been Cancelled

I'm confused. Why are people mentioning the original V? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that just a mini-series that had a clear-cut end? Wasn't it along the same lines as Roots and Lonesome Dove? Not saying the 3 were similar in story or quality, but wasn't V just a mini-series like those other two? It was never an actual series was it?

I was under the impression they were both cancelled and replaced by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Yes. It was a weekly series the year following the second mini-series.

I liked both Invasion and Surface which got cancelled with cliffhangers.

There was a time when an under performing show would be saved just because the network president liked the show. Also, sponsors would buy time slots, let's say Proctor & Gamble owned 8pm-9pm mondays on NBC. The sponsor would find a pilot they liked and then have the network air it in a time slot they owned. Every show had to have a permanent sponsor. The sponsor would determine if the show remained on the air or not. If a show wasn't doing to well the producer/stars would go see the CEO of GM and convince him to give the show another chance. If not, they would try and find another company to become their sponsor.

Re: Top Ten Tv Shows That Never Should Have Been Cancelled

As mentioned a dozen or so times before, Firefly.

Also enjoyed Invasion which got canned after one season despite coming on before Lost. Plus it left off with a cliffhanger in the final episode.

Over There - Don't know if Steven Bochco only committed to one season or if they(FX) just decided to cancel it, but I hated that it only lasted the one season that it aired.

I went through the whole thread wondering if Invasion would get mentioned only to have someone do it while I was typing.

Re: Top Ten Tv Shows That Never Should Have Been Cancelled

I think once i have time i'm going to tally up the most common ones and change my first post to reflect top ten from everyone's lists, so by all means keep your shows coming. As far as invasion and surface goes i was sure they were getting cancelled so i never gave them a chance even though they looked interesting.

Got another: Smith. That was a really cool show that was almost too good for Network TV; if it was on HBO, it would have been huge.

I still love the show. If you don't like it, don't watch.

As for my pick, Andy Richter Controls the Universe! At least they finally released it on DVD...
