Need help identifying TV Documentary from early 90s

I don't have much to go on, but I am trying to find a title for a TV documentary that I saw in the early 90s probably on AMC, but it could have been PBS...

The program featured interviews with elderly people describing what it was like being the part of the first generation to grow up with the movies as a primary source of entertainment.

Thanks, but I don't think that's it. Even though this sounds fascinating, the program I saw was more about their memories of the movies from silents to talkies as opposed to other key events of the 20th century.

Also, this seems to have premiered on HBO in 1999 at a time when I didn't have HBO.

It's possible that what I saw was an episode of the PBS series The American Experience, but I really think I saw it on AMC before 1999.
