Penn & Teller: Bull****: Easy Money - 07/08/10
Showtime, 9:00pm CDT
At the risk of being repetitive, ho-hum. Well, it could be OK. Teen Sex, while not a landmark P&T, was better than I thought it would be.
Next week is Area 51 which could be pretty good. Lots of loonies in the Easy Target show of the season.
Everyone wants to get rich quick, but are multilevel marketing schemes really the answer? Penn & Teller reveal the truth about direct-sales companies that market everything from sausages to sex toys.

I was waiting to hear how much that fool had 'made' on his business. I figured he would be in the red. I can only imagine what kind of other debt he's in given that he lives in what looks like a decent house.
at them starting their Bullshit pyramid sales pitch at the end. Comes with a free ampersand.

Watching the people trying to make money off these schemes just makes my skin crawl.

That shit with the juice guy was hilarious. He looked like a homeless person when he went to meet that guy for lunch. "Have you heard of Deepack Chopra?"

I really felt for Julie Walker's brother as I watched this episode.
One thing they touched on that was quite sad was how personable these "consultants" were. The ManCave guy, in the limited video we saw of him, seemed like a genuinely good guy who could probably do actual sales (or any number of actual jobs that personable guys can do), but he gets roped in with the flash of ManCave pitch, and he'll end up losing money from the whole ordeal.
My biggest laugh of the night came when the Zrii guy was doing his "business lunch." When he sits down, I say aloud "... is that Kevin Pollack?" Only to hear Penn call him a Kevin Pollack lookalike seconds later.

I’ve been a little disappointed with this season’s execution, but this was a definite improvement.
There are a lot of women in my office who do the Pure Romance or Pamper Chef thing. It seems fine if you want to do it as a fun and little side hobby, but how many people go into these things with that as their sole intention?
I kind of felt bad for all the “sales reps”, but I was especially embarrassed for the Zrii guy. He didn’t even have the foresight to dress nice; much less bring a sample of the product.
I could make more money selling my Plasma (approx $230/mo) if it weren’t for my petite veins that require the more dainty needles and not the “one size fits all.”
Like Wazootyman said, they all looked like they could do well in actual sales positions. The lure of being your “own boss” and not actually working must be a greater enticement.

Slander?
I remember in one of the earlier episodes they explained that while they could be sued for calling something fake or wrong, they couldn't be sued for calling it Bull****. Hence the name of the show.

I sit across from a guy at work who was actually shown in this episode (he didn't speak, he was just sitting there while someone else talked), and I'm going to tease him to no end about this.

He didn't have any furniture in his house & lost $1,500 'working' for Zrii so those were probably the nicest clothes he has. $30 a bottle for juice? Where's the market for that??? At least the meat & dildoes were stuff people might actually have a use for.

I had to deal with Quixtar at the job I had as a teenager. Spread like a virus until thankfully my work got bought out and the leader of the chapter or whatever tried to pitch the new general manager and got run out because of it. Been waiting for this episode for years.
