New game show: Downfall
I can't believe this is for real. Contestants have a certain amount of time to answer trivia questions as their prize is slowly moving down a conveyer belt located on a skyscraper. If they don't answer in time the prize drops off the conveyer belt and smashes.

Re: New game show: Downfall
this show is why other countries hate us.

Re: New game show: Downfall
Chris Jericho of the WWE is hosting the show, so that in itself could make it entertaining.
But according to ABCs page on the show, they won't be sending the actual prizes over the edge, but "fabricated facsimiles" of the prizes. |
Re: New game show: Downfall
It'd be better if they put the contestants on said conveyer belt and every wrong question would push them closer to the edge.
If someone went over of course there'd be a net or inflatable thing to catch them. or maybe they're on a bungie cord. I'd watch that though. |

When I saw the title, I thought it would be teams of players competing to come up with the best hitler subtitles.
Didn't Comedy Central have a game show where the prizes were destroyed when the contestants incorrectly answered questions? |

B. Other countries have VASTLY more ridiculous game shows than we do. In fact a lot of our shows are stolen from over seas. |

ridiculous, yes, but not involving blatant destruction of expensive property. just goes to inforce the notion that we are an egocentric "throw away" society.

I'd watch that though. dollar prize - the contestant will be standing on the conveyor belt - holding the cash - if they don't answer 10 questions right before time runs out - they go over. Theres no net or inflatable thing to catch them though - they are just hooked up to a harness - something rock climbers use. Also if the contestant is struggling early in the game with the questions and need to have the conveyor belt back up a notch or two - you can have a friend or relative be put on the conveyor belt and if you don't beat the clock - they are the ones going over. I'll be watching - I'm a fan of the host. If you miss Tuesdays premiere and don't want to watch online - check out your local ABC channel schedule for next weekend - mine is repeating the show next Sunday afternoon from 1:00 pm ET to 2:00 pm ET. (The second episode scheduled for Tuesday, June 30 will repeat on my local ABC channel on Sunday, July 4 from 2:30 pm ET to 3:30 pm ET.) LB... |
Re: New game show: Downfall
They should put the contestant on the ground at the end of the conveyer belt so they don't know what they're playing for. If they keep getting questions wrong then the item falls on the contestant. It's all good if they lose and the prize was a bunch of jelly beans but the real fun starts when the prize is a pick up truck.

Re: New game show: Downfall
Can't be anymore stupid than Minute to Win It. This is why other countries take a look at our game shows and laugh.
|
Re: New game show: Downfall
As mentioned earlier... Our games hows are usually toned-down copies of foreign shows. Latin American / Hispanic shows are borderline soft-core porn in this country and we'd never get away the stuff they do over in Japan. We seem to copy British shows without a second thought here. I'm actually surprised that this show is not an copy of a British show...

. You mean "Chris Jericho, lead singer of Fozzy." :) i'll try and catch it just because of jericho |
Re: New game show: Downfall
that little building is a skyscraper? pretty stupid show over all and jericho sucks.
|
Re: New game show: Downfall
watched for 10 minutes. no more. ever.

Re: New game show: Downfall
For some reason I watched this and boy was it terrible. The firefighter contestant has made me remember why I hate Boston
|
Re: New game show: Downfall
yeah the boston guy was a doofus.
the only good thing about the show was that it reminded me to watch the show after it which was interesting. |
Re: New game show: Downfall
I watched the first half. Jericho was an okay host, better than I thought he would be.
I also liked the structure of the game, answer 4 questions in a category, then 5, etc. to keep moving up the money ladder. Unfortunately, the addition of the conveyor belt makes the game move so fast that you barely have time to absorb the questions. And the actual idea of having a conveyor belt drop fake prizes or people is just too stupid. I probably won't watch again. |
Re: New game show: Downfall
^^ Agree with Charlie.
Watched about 30 minutes at work with my colleagues and we all thought it was lame. The questions were fine and Jericho is not a horrible host, but that coveyor belt with shit falling over got really distracting, especially knowing that all those prizes were fake props. |

^^ Me too!
I won't be watching this one again. Stupid contestants, stupid hosts, stupid premise! |

I'll be watching next week. It's about the only game show I've watched a whole episode of since Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?. |
Re: New game show: Downfall
Not as bad as it could have been, but the novelty of the gimmick has already worn off. It's just the old Letterman bit of dropping things off a five-story building combined with a quiz show. And dropping your friend off the building... who cares? It's not like they are in danger.
Also, repeatedly hyping the fact you are on a 100-story building means nothing if you're only dropping things onto a landing a few stories down. |
Re: New game show: Downfall
Maybe they can retool it so the winner is the contestant who can come up with the best Hitler Downfall parody for different subjects.
Tom, your category is...the BP oil spill! (Cue Hilter video while Tom tries to improv) D |

I missed "Downfall". I probably would've watched it just for Jericho. The premise doesn't sound like much to hold my attention for a show (let alone a season of shows). |
