Kind of a middling ending to a strong season. The chalkboard gag was great. The stuff with Lisa selling candy, including in the thought bubbles was pretty good too. Loved the line about how all songs about LA suck. Nice to see The Simpsons able to pull off a South Park type move and add in a mention of the oil leak.
But the story itself was pretty lame, and came off as shameless plugging of Idol.

I did love the fact that after all these years of Marge complaining about all the time Homer spends at Moe's, he finally wants to spend time with the family and she can't get rid of him fast enough

Weird that all the guest stars on this episode were pretty good caricatures, except Ryan Seacrest. Same thing with him on Family Guy on Sunday. I wonder what's up with that.
