They couldn't even fix that shitty ending if they gave them an 18 hour series.

A reboot wouldn't work because Lost's primary lure for many viewers was the mystery about the Island and that is now absent. I can't even imagine what type of millennial casting they would attempt with a reboot.

Meh. Normally I’d be all against a reboot, but they fucked up the last season and ending big time. They can’t make it worse.
Lost was the last tv show I dropped everything to tune in for. No dvr or binging. I loved the first five seasons.

Hire me.

It will be a prequel series that explores the Dharma Initiative in more depth. We will learn of its origin and it’s experiments on the island that led to their discovery of ... whatever it is that intermingles time, space, and reality.

Or was that already covered? Been so long I can’t remember. Hell, this is almost making me want to go back and watch it again.

LOST is one of those shows where we were completely absorbed by it for a while, but once it ran it's course, no one cared anymore. It doesn't have the staying power that I thought it would when it was producing new episodes. I think it might have had more long-term impact if it ran two seasons less and never gave us ANY answers.

A prequel series could work to expand on the mythology they already established - or they could go way into the future with an immortal Hurley and Ben returning with an entirely new cast and story.

There's a lot you can do with the Lost universe but I do agree that it's too late since the show didn't have much staying power once it was over. I'll be interested if anything does come of this, but I don't really care all that much either way.

I'm still a bit pissed that they came out and said explicitly that "no, they are not dead" in one of the interviews in the early seasons only to have that BS ending.

Rewatched the series with my kids a couple of years back and it held up well but I don't see a reboot as a good idea.

I could see that.

I never really held the "flash to post-death" sequences against them, but it is a bit of a cop out. At least they weren't dead on the actual island.

As for a reboot? Naw, but this is one instance where I'd be cool with a prequel series. But man the quality was so much higher on LOST than on a majority of the "puzzle box" serials that followed.

Lost was fueled by internet discussion, but that also did the show in. The showrunners supposedly came up with the Purgatory solution fairly early on around season two, but eventually too many people started guessing Purgatory as one possible end.

have another plane crash on the island with new people.

show some remnants of the other group here and there but nothing specific.

if it lasts long enough have a character from the original show up somehow/someway

essentially a reboot but not.

Lindelof is off ruining Watchmen so who would oversee this if they did bring it back?

I was thinking something along similar lines.

A bunch of new people arrive on the island, probably on lifeboats from a sinking cruise liner just to be different.

Hurley and Ben are running the mystical side of the island.

The other survivors that made it off of the island — Kate, Sawyer, Desmond, Richard, Miles — will show up from time to time. They’re out in the world keeping the island a secret, and occasionally show up on the island to assist Hurley and Ben.

this SNL skit from 2006 nailed the ending along with half the people watching. The writers in fact had no idea what they were doing and made it up as they went. No thanks to a reboot, prequel or sequel. Suckered once but won’t be fooled again.

I like this idea, but do it in a series that seemingly has no connection to LOST and then "M. Night" it in a season finale. Like if we suddenly found out NBC's MANIFEST was a LOST sequel (as opposed to, you know, a LOST rip-off ).

If they could commit to just a 10 episode mystery prequel, I'd be interested. A 24 episode season after season show (like Manifest) doesn't interest me in the least.

Hell no. Let it die already. It's not like the show has even aged well.

Re: Lost -- 2 1/2 Hour Series Finale -- "The End Part 1 & 2" -- 05/23/10

Sorry, but the final season ruined whatever mystique this story had for me. It essentially made all the mysteries pointless, so I'm not sure what could be accomplished with a follow-up/reboot/prequel/etc. Unless they could somehow retcon 90% of the series...

It's obvious that the new series should be called "Found" although they kind of covered that ground already.

Re: Lost -- 2 1/2 Hour Series Finale -- "The End Part 1 & 2" -- 05/23/10

Just finished watching LOST on Hulu (my first viewing) and enjoyed the wild ride. With a show like this, I never really took things that were said or shown too literally. I suppose that the ending was fine given what they had to work with. Just how many times did the characters (Kate, Sawyer) end up getting shot only to survive with no complications. I was prepared for pretty much any cockamamie outcome the writers came up with. Therefore, what they did dish up did not seem all that outlandish.

I thought the show was wonderful to watch given its locale backdrop. I love shows or movies about airplane crashes and their survivors. It was a great ride. My favorite "WTF" Lost moment was in season 3 The Man From Tallahassee (and The Brig) when Ben presented Locke's father Anthony Cooper to him in the holding tank, directly in the aftermath of showing TMFT shoving his blood out of a high-rise window.

Re: Lost -- 2 1/2 Hour Series Finale -- "The End Part 1 & 2" -- 05/23/10

I think original viewers of Lost as it aired week to week would appreciate the mysteries more. A big part of Lost's fandom was coming up with theories about the unexplained mysteries each weekly episode. Probably the first show during the Internet era to develop an elaborate life outside the show itself. Game of Thrones had something similar but everyone had the books, which helped act as cheat guides.

Yep, the speculation was half the fun of the show.
