I...can't believe it's finally here. What an exciting and somewhat depressing day. Hopefully it 'rox our sox off', but even then it'll be depressing.
Of course the bitching and whining about 'why didn't they answer this?!!?!' will live for eternity.

I had decided that my pet theory of the island as a big spaceship was pretty much dead when I realized that Darlton had abandoned their promise for a rational scientific explanation for everything. But now it's official:
But it's interesting that they were obviously thinking along those lines.
You’ve said you didn’t give a code name to the final act because it misleadingly inferred there would be a shock. Is there really no twist at the end?
Cuse: It’s a straightforward idea but we’ve tried to do it in an engaging way. A lot of series have ended with big, twisty revelations, like it all took place in a snowglobe. Or it was a dream. The audience will not be snowglobed at the end of Lost. We wanted to give a fair, legitimate ending. The island isn’t gonna be an alien spaceship and fly away.

I think there are advantages and disadvantages to doing it this way.
The pros are that you don't forget things as easily, everything is fresh in your mind, it's easier to keep timelines and chronology of events straight, and if there is an episode you don't like it isn't the only episode you get that week. For example, I personally couldn't stand Kate from the start and the episodes that focused on her were the weakest for me. But even though I didn't enjoy them as the rest of the episodes, it was just a brief 40 minutes until I moved on to the next episode.
The biggest con is that going into the finale a lot of stuff is still fresh in my mind as being unanswered. I just watched Claire at the psychic the other day learning that Aaron is special and she has to raise him and it doesn't look like we are going to get answers. I imagine people that have been watching all along have forgotten a few things along the way, but they are all pretty fresh in my mind. I really liked the Dharma Initiative stuff, but felt that we got way too little information about it, even though on the surface it would seem like we learned a lot.

As for the dreams, well, why do we dream about certain things? That's another question that's probably left best if open to interpretation on the show.
Personally, I'd rank S3 way before S2. Desmond and Ben are the highpoints of S2. S3 only had one or two low ranked episodes and a lot of really good ones. IMO, Stranger in a Strange Land wasn't that bad at all.

They have answered your question. Basically they stated Malkin was a fraud and had been paid by the couple in LA to get Claire to the USA. He did his homework on her and tried to scare her into it. We were supposed to find this out via the show but the scene was deleted back in S2.
Honestly, I think it's debatable whether or not he was a fraud. Sure, he told Mr. Eko he was a fraud, but that really seemed to me like he was just trying to stop the church from investigating and wanted to get rid of them. Mr. Eko wanted to leave and so was ready to believe whatever he was told so he could close the assignment and leave Australia. Regardless, it seems like he experienced some real fear when he gave Claire her reading and continually bothered her trying to make sure she raised the child herself. Why would a fraud even bother?
More importantly, why would he give her her money back if he was trying to scam her? Sure, you might argue that it was an adoption scam, to get her to give the child up for adoption, but after all of the talk about Claire having to raise the baby herself and then he completely changes his position...there's no guarantee that Claire would have listened.
I don't think he was a fraud. I think he experienced something and saw something with Claire and her baby and knew that if she got on that plane she would crash and be forced to raise the baby herself. Claire even questions whether or not this is the case. If the writers wanted us to believe that the guy was a total fraud and it was all just a coincidence they should have done something other than a hurried and pressured admission of him having been a fraud to get rid of an investigating priest.

No, your not listening to me. They filmed another scene in which Malkin admits he was paid to bring Claire to the USA. It was deleted from S2 and never shown.
On the Lost Season 2 DVD Lost Connections there is a previously unseen clip when the navigation moves from Eko to Richard Malkin. Malkin tells Eko that he was paid $16,000 by a couple in Los Angeles to convince a pregnant girl to board a plane (note that this is a deleted scene and, as such, is not necessarily canon).

I missed that in your original post, sorry. Now that you mention it though, I do remember seeing that deleted scene. Even if we consider it canon though, it is still comes off as an afterthought, the writer's cheap and uninspired attempt to do away with something that they originally made out to be very significant. That is the type of "answer" that I don't like and seems to have been used quite frequently in Lost.
Still, there remains the possibility that someone (Eloise, Widmore, etc.) paid him knowing the plane would crash.

The first seven or so episodes of the third season were absolute trash and a perfect example of the writers stalling for time. Once the Losties got out of "jail" it started getting awesome.

I'm caught up and ready for tonight. I've never really been pissed at Lost for not answering questions, I've just been along for the ride. I don't know what i expect tonight, I'm just sad to see it end.

Never said that, but it's going to be annoying hearing it every time Lost is brought up. I still don't understand the point of Illana and her gang, the Temple people, and Widmore's gang if they were all going to die in the end without any real purpose.

I'm glad they aren't dragging this on like they did with X-Files. Some of these shows with a series long mystery arc are better left to end after a good handful of seasons.

So what's the next show we will watch that will get 100+ posts by the time the Pacific coast people watch it? I miss the late-night reading.

Lost has been a fantastic series despite its occasional lows. As a six season series, it works very well, as a three season series I think it could have been an undisputed classic. I'm playing catch-up with this season right now.

It's going to be interesting seeing the 3 alternate endings on the Kimmel special afterwards.

After the last flashback episode (Jacob/MiB) I was pretty disillusioned. It's not that I don't enjoy learning about those characters, but the fact that they weren't 'the first' and were just another in a series takes away from them. The fact that we don't (yet?) really know what is going on big picture is really the most disheartening. What is the island and when did this all start?
That said, I found that the last episode really left me eager to see how this all wraps up. I am setting myself up for disappointment, but I do hope it ends well.
I liked the winner of the finale fan promo, but I think this one is pretty dang good too:

Watching the enhanced pilot now, just to refresh everything. Damn, that was some good stuff back in S1. Fantastic pilot.
When the Losties 1st "hear" monster while they are on the beach, and smokey is ripping up trees, why do you think the MIB/Smokey was doing that? Just to mess with them?
