CBS cancels seven series
There was a thread regarding some of next years' plans however this deals exclusively with the shows that were cancelled.
CBS cancels seven series The crime procedurals "Cold Case," "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numbers" will not be renewed for next season. Jerry Bruckheimer's drama "Miami Medical" also is canceled, as is fellow freshman "Accidentally on Purpose," which mainly aired as part of a Monday night comedy block. Veteran Wednesday comedies "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Gary Unmarried" also have been axed. Never watched any of the dramas. Of the comedies; Christine I never really watched consistently, I liked the chick but the rest of Gary Unmarried never rocked my boat, and Accidentally On Purpose was so fucking bad I couldn't stand to watch a commercial for the show. |
Re: CBS cancels seven series
As much as I hate seeing Numbers go, it was time. And they had they wrapped it up rather nicely. Good of them to go out on a high note, rather than let it die away. Never dug any of the others though.

Re: CBS cancels seven series
All these cancellations were mentioned in the CBS Upfront thread.
As far as the stuff I watched: Cold Case= Totally expected. The show is expensive with the music used and doesn't appeal to younger viewers. Ghost Whisperer= Not entirely dead yet. ABC might pick it up since they co-produce the show. But, ratings dropped and the show jumped the shark when David Conrad's character died and was re-born. |

[Jeopardy] What are 7 shows I have never watched [/Jeopardy]

Re: CBS cancels seven series
I actually kinda liked Accidentally on Purpose.
Though I knew it couldn't really keep the pregnancy storyline going and would change focus, I was curious where it was going. Guess I'll never know. -jason |
Re: CBS cancels seven series
Is "series" really the plural form of "series"?

Re: CBS cancels seven series
Too damn bad Big Bang Theory remains. I hate that show and it irks me to no end occasionally catching glimpses of it when I'm flipping through 300+ channels with my chubby Dorito-stained fingers.

Re: CBS cancels seven series
I'm really mad they cancelled Cold Case. It was getting great ratings and has been consistently good.
I guess the music was making the show too expensive to produce. This was sort of the same reason Without a Trace got cancelled as well. It was getting great ratings but the music costs were too high. |
Re: CBS cancels seven series
I don't watch Cold Case, but if the music licensing was making the show prohibitively expensive then why wouldn't they just cut down on the songs to keep it on the air? Not like anyone was tuning in to hear the billboard top 100. Must be more than that going on.

Re: CBS cancels seven series
I gave up Cold Case after last season. The stories just got so stale. The killer was always someone who really loved the victim but accidentally pushed them downstairs or hit them in the head with a hammer in a momentary burst of rage.
Plus all of the Sunday night CBS delays just made this show annoying to DVR. |
Re: CBS cancels seven series
I watched AoP a few times, it was okay. I missed seeing the birth though.
Unfortunately, I really liked Gary Unmarried. |
Re: CBS cancels seven series
Too bad that PoS Psych ripoff still exists. I want the Mentalist to die for being a hack-job so badly.

Re: CBS cancels seven series
Cold Case is/was the only show I watch/watched on CBS.

Re: CBS cancels seven series
I'm going to miss Old Christine. Not something that I watched every week but when there was nothing else on it was always something I caught up on.
|
Re: CBS cancels seven series
Nothing I watch.

Re: CBS cancels seven series
While I won't really miss any of them a lot, I did like Numbers and Gary Unmarried. Gary Unmarried was not great, but any stretch of the imagination, but was entertaining.
I really hated Christine though. I loved the Elaine character, but Christine was just a neurotic mess and I found that EXTREMELY irritating. |

Re: CBS cancels seven series
The reason CBS canceled Cold Case and other relatively long-running series is simple: they can afford to. The series were getting up in years and CBS wants the room on the schedule to groom new hits that can last for the next seven years.
This is the kind of thing you can do when you're in first place. NBC can't, which is why it's so weird that they canceled Law & Order. Then again nothing NBC has done in the past few years has made any sense whatsoever. |

In some cases creativity becomes an issue, but with L&O, since the newspaper is the source of the story lines that shouldn't be a problem unless of course due to budgetary restrictions they canceled their newspaper subscription and now have no story lines ;) |

Dramas are the most expensive TV to produce and ROI is a big factor. Ratings might still be good however if it's not enough of the key demographics (young people who spend money on advertised items) then the show is still a loser for them.

Screw that and just cancel the damn show. |
