For all the people saying they didn't know... I think they always knew in broad strokes where they wanted to go. As for individual characters they had to make some stuff up as they went along because there were so many cast changes out of their control.

Re: Lost -- "What They Died For" -- 18.05.10

Another random thought...some thought the show would end with Jack becoming the next Jacob. So if this episode ended that way, I guess not...it's just something along the way that leads up to the ending.

They fucked us on the Linus-Widmore story, and they have no excuse to hide behind there. They didn't start that in season 1 and have to abandon it for some reason. They just didn't have enough regard for us to write a cohesive story that makes sense. It does not bode well for the final episode.

Off the wall...but I wanted to put it out there. It makes more sense to me than Aaron being MIB. Obviously there are those of you who think MIB will be a kid off island...so why not David?

Sometimes I feel like you throw out so many theories in the hopes that one of them might be correct in order to say "see, I told you!"

That makes sense. Would be fine if things ended like that. I liked Jacob's explanation about why he brought them to the island. Not the most satisfying answer, but OK. Though I don't know about Jack protector and failsafe Desmond will end up doing in the finale.

I didn't like:
- Ben taking out Widmore.
- MIB taking out Richard.
- MIB changing his mind about leaving the island. (destroying the island is still leaving it?)
- MIB wanting to destroy the island after offering it to Ben.
But whatevs.

Actually, I think Jack takes MIB out and MIB doesn't get off the island. But after last week's episode it made it less clear he was just pure evil...it seems he genuinely wants off the island. And I am not the first to throw this type of idea out there so I could NOT be the one to say I told you so if it turned out to be correct. In fact, last week I completely dismissed the Aaron idea but I thought more about it. All along I've seen people theorize that Aaron was MIB, so this idea isn't that far out there from those theories.

I just started to wonder if the Aaron=MIB ideas might have some footing, but thought about David as being the wild card in that theory not really considered before.

I think he means David's concert, to meet up with Jack.

Eloise is still around so I hope we get some answers from her regarding the Linus-Widmore thing. I really wanted more answers with that too...we only got teasers up to this point.

I think he means Faraday's concert.

That was a pretty nice dress he gave Kate...something you'd wear to hear a classically trained pianist, not a school recital.

Geez, I don't know if I should take that seriously or not, but that would really piss off a lot of fans!

i thought it was a much better episode than the crap they fed us last week. to me, this show got out of hand when the oceanic six got on the ajira flight and hopped back in time 30 years. i know damn well abrams didn't have this crap in mind. they went from finding these cool hatches to time travel. wtf. sometimes simple is better. the last two episodes proved that jacob is a retard. he believed his crackpot fake mom when she didn't even want him to be the protector of the island. she wanted MIB. then he wanted to keep people away from the island...then he brought people.

Yes, but I had interpreted the episode title as having a deeper meaning than "why they died," in the manner of "why it was worth it." My bad!

How do you know for a fact Abrams didn't have time travel in mind? He's used time travel in Felicity and didn't he do something like that in Alias, jumping forward like five years on there as well? The man loves his time travel. Man, even Star Trek had it. You state it like cold hard fact he didn't want the show to get into time travel yet he's often used it...so why not in Lost?

See the truth is Jacob is
Spoiler:
Bizarro
and the MiB is
Spoiler:
Kal-El.
And all the events on the Island are
Spoiler:
the result of delusions brought about by a strange alien plant that Mongul sent to Kal-El and grafted itself to his body.

First off, that's a fantastic issue.

Second, I actually had my wife read that issue earlier in the season and said "This is what I think is going on with Lost."

Of course, for that to work, I'd need to switch MiB for Jack. You know. Cos of David.

because there was no hint of it even in the tiniest of ways the first two seasons. just like david jaffe had a different ending for the god of war series. when something like this changes creative hands...those new creative hands want to put their own stamp on it. who knows though...even with abrams writing this final season maybe it still would've been a mess. just see his star trek reboot. entertaining...but ridiculous.

Abrams was never the creative head of LOST. Its always been Damon Lindelof, with Cuse joining during the latter half of the 1st season iirc.

And they wanted to include hints about time travel way back in the first season, but ABC shot that down. Theyve said this for years.

That's one of my hated parts of this show how they'll try to throw in a cliffhanger before every commercial break. It gets old quick and becomes quite irritating.
