When this episode started I noticed the music working double time too. That just got me extra hyped, thinking this episode was really going to be great. Instead, it's just to help hide the shit skidmarks this episode has left behind.

I would hope to assume that the eye of the island is the entrance to hell. I don't see what else that light could be. What a convoluted mess this episode was. If they wrap up the series in a nice way then I can forget about this one, but talk about the hype train getting derailed big time.

My feed cutout for no apparent reason for a few seconds after Jacob picked up the black and white rocks(then it cut to Kate) did anything happen in those few seconds or was it just a big jump cut to Jack and Kate discovering their bodies?
So I guess Smokey isn't really the actual "man" in black but some sort of force that takes his form (like it later does with Locke).
I dunno, I agree we got a few answers but they weren't that great and lots of better questions were just ignored once again. Overall this episode was pretty bad, I really don't know if they're going to pull this thing off by the end of it all.
I'm really not digging how they basically have jettisoned so much of the science and now it's all this pseudo religious parable. I long for more about the damn Dharma initiative at this point.

Notice. I come out of a long hiding to comment in a Lost thread not about the episode but to answer a question about a commercial during the episode.
Yeah, it was that bad.

I'm 100% in Flocke's defense now - Jacob thought he was doing good protecting the island, but he truly had no idea whether he was or not.
And I imagine poor Jack will end up doing the exact same.

Anyone remember going into a show's finale, after six seasons no less, and having no clue what the fuck the story even is about anymore?

What Smokey actually is would go a long ways to rectifying the whole series. Did Mother know about Smoky before? Was it Smoky that she wanted to stay or the son and why? Throw us a real bone here, with meat on it.
