DIRECTV Extends Its HD lead With Over 160 HD Channels

MSNBC HD, ESPNU HD, Travel Channel HD, Hallmark Channel HD, Lifetime HD and Univision HD Are Among the New HD Channels to Begin launching in May

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 20, 2010— DIRECTV, the world's most popular video service, continues to deliver more full time HD channels than any other television provider in the nation with the addition of over 30 new HD channels. These new channels will begin rolling out in May and will continue in the following few months bringing DIRECTV's total HD channel lineup to more than 160.

Among the 30 new HD channels that DIRECTV will begin launching next month are:

* Showtime Women HD
* STARZ Cinema HD
* STARZ In Black HD
* Telefutura HD West
* TMC Xtra HD East
* Travel Channel HD
* Univision HD East
* WGN HD
* Additional DIRECTV Cinema Channels

"While DISH Network is very skilled at grossly inflating their HD numbers, you'd be hard pressed to find an actual list of comprehensive HD channels that match their recent claims. We invite consumers to go to DIRECTV.com/hdchannels to see a list of all of DIRECTV's 160 HD channels. We challenge DISH to publish a list of all their full-time HD channels so consumers can decide and count for themselves."

In addition, beginning this June, DIRECTV will launch a suite of 3D channels, which will include N3D™ powered by Panasonic, ESPN 3D, a 3D DIRECTV Cinema channel; and a 3D DIRECTV on Demand channel.

DIRECTV continues to lead the industry with the most sports in HD by broadcasting exclusive interactive sports packages like NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ and NCAA® MEGA MARCH MADNESS™ all in crystal-clear HD. Some channels are waiting on carriage agreements being finalized, and some just weren't on the list. Supposedly AMC and others are part of the test streams.

WGN is good (HD sports), but AMC need to happen too, mainly before Mad Men starts back up.

Nice to finally see ESPNU HD, although it would been nice had they rolled before basketball season.

And where the fuck is AMC HD. I'm sick of having to watch Mad Men in SD.

Comcast has some channels that DirecTV doesn't, while DirecTV has some that Comcast doesn't. Same goes when comparing Comcast or DirecTV to FiOS TV. None of them have all possible channels in HD.

Yay! for Travel Channel HD. It's about time we get Tony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern in HD.

Also pleased about Lifetime HD mainly for Army Wives.

Boo to no AMC HD yet. Hopefully we will get it before Mad Men starts.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I was looking over the list. I appreciate more movie channels, but the ones you listed were the ones I was most looking forward to seeing added, especially TCM.

Good to see some of the extended Showtime, Starz and TMC HD channels added. I'm with Dish and wish we had more of these in HD...

Me too. I actually clicked on this thread because I expected to be reminded how much better satellite is than just having cable. I certainly was under that impression and, of the channels listed that most people want, Cox has been giving them to me for a very long time.

I guess I shouldn't hate on Cox as much as I do.

I'm really not seeing the need for BBCA in HD. Who cares if the 24-hour Cash in the Attic marathon is in HD or not?

I've had very little issue with Cox. Their DVR isn't great, but they are committed to content, and that's the most important thing.
