Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- Season Finale -- "Kill Them All" -- 04/16/10

Spartacus

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the first-season finale, Spartacus gears up his plan for revenge against Glaber, and receives support and assistance from a most unlikely ally.

Last episode of the season. Freaking love this show. Hopefully people who bailed after the pilot will either rent the DVD or watch it off Netflix will give t another chance. Too bad it's going to be a very very long wait for season 2.

This was a great episode. I can only wonder at what they have planned for Season 2 once production begins.

Holy Fucking Shit! Seriously. This episode gave new meaning to the word "bloodbath."

I am so glad I decided to stick with this show after the first couple of shallow episodes. I don't think I have ever seen a show improve so much from it's first to last episode.

Once again...Holy Fucking Shit! Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Wow ... that episode title wasn't lying!

Very satisfying finale. Lots of stuff got wrapped up, and even if its a really long wait for another season they picked a nice stopping place. And there's loads more to be done with the Spartacus story, if you're familiar at all with the history.

I agree. I am glad they finished the season without too many loose ends since it seems questionable to me that there will be a second.

great season finale. surprised that john hannah got killed, although i cant stand him and wanted justice for spartacus wife, he was a strong character in this show. nonetheless, it turned out to be a wonderful blood bath lol. if anyone is familiar with the spartacus story, crixus and doctore (aka omeniaus) team up to lead the slave revolt. whats gonna happen next season? we'll be surprised. I can imagine illythia will be returning as she escaped a slashing, and ashur too. i dont know if lucretia is dead or serverely wounded but i know she wont be having that baby. im kind of assuming she died a slow and painful death in the pool with baitiatus. cant wait for next season, and get well soon andy!

I wish more women were like Mira, hot and in order for them to do you a favor they make you have sex with them.

Good finale. Loved that Aurelia was the one that killed Numerius.

The only disappointing thing was Ashur surviving.

Excellent episode. Loved that Crixus ended up helping Spartacus in the end. I hope he finds his girlfriend. I truly don't believe there was enough blood tho.

I can't wait to see what they come up with next season. I will definitely be buying this series.

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- Season Finale -- "Kill Them All" -- 04/16/10

I guess I was the only one that was a tad disappointed. I felt they did a great job at building drama and tension all season long and then they just simply killed everyone in 15 minutes. I also thought some of the acting was especially bad this episode, particularly Crixus. And when the gladiators first started the attack, I thought the battle cries were beyond ridiculous. I've come to accept the cheese factor of the show and love it, but something about the finale didn't feel right.

I actually disliked the pilot, but started to love the show after the second episode. The finale reminded me of the pilot, but not as bad because I'm much more invested in the show at this point. Still, I can't wait til next season when Spartacus will surely remove Ilithyia's head.

That is how you make unbelievable violence palatable, you raise the stakes, you provide a framework where justice is served when nothing else will address such grievances. I hope fans of "Kick-Ass" will discover this show because it's far more honest in its brutality than that piece of fluffy gore-porn.

Great gore is always entertaining. No matter if it's palatable or fluffy. And please stop with the equation of gore to porn. It's not only stupid, it's also wrong.

Epic episode!

So many Gif-worthy scenes:
Varro's wife stabbing the brat
Ilithyia 's evil smirk as the doors were sealed behind her
Spartacus' epic leap towards Batiatus followed by Doctore's 'mean motherfucker'-look when he was standing with the whip.

I haven't been this entertained by a tv show since BSG's 'Exodus pt 2'
Too bad season 2 was postponed indefinitely

Apparently, Starz is looking at developing a 6 episode prequel to air in January while Andy undergoes treatment.

Vulture Exclusive: Starz Developing a Spartacus: Blood and Sand Prequel
4/11/10 at 11:40 AM

Vulture has learned that Starz is developing a six-episode miniseries prequel to its freshman hit, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, in order to keep the series' momentum after its star, Andy Whitfield, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma a month ago and production on a second season was indefinitely postponed. The series (the finale of which airs next week) has been Starz's first original-series hit, averaging a million viewers each week; the network green-lighted season 2 a month before it even premiered, but now, with Whitfield in treatment, Starz finds itself with empty sets, actors, producers, and writers very expensively standing by. A prequel (Gladiator Babies, perhaps?) would keep the sets and creative staff productive, while holding on to the original show's fans. Network execs are now in Cannes at the annual MIP TV international programming marketplace, looking at other options, but this spin-off is looking like a tempting bet to fill their January hole. More as this story develops.

You obviously don't understand my use of the term "gore-porn", it means overly excessive gore/violence for gore/violence's sake (like most of the Saw movies). It's the same as "torture-porn". Just like the last Rambo film was basically "action-porn", excessive and over-the-top action sequences of mowing down the "bad guys" for the sake of keeping it "real".

Re: Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- Season Finale -- "Kill Them All" -- 04/16/10

Great series. So glad I stumbled on it after a few episodes aired though, as it took a few to get me hooked. After the first I was lukewarm, but after the third or fourth episode (later that same viewing) I was well hooked and looking forward to a new one asap.

Ashur and Ilithyia aside, I'm glad they didn't weasel out of dishing out the unflinching vengeance to otherwise major characters (even if they thought it may have been a series finale anyway). So often shows chicken out of such actions. This show was like the Sopranos in that regard, anyone could get it at any time, creating true tension through an episode. This is unlike something like Heroes where every major character has died several times but always comes back to die again to the point that the death of a character doesn't warrant notice.

And frankly I'm glad Ashur and Ilithyia survived because a second season for them has great possibilities (especially Ilithyia reunited with her husband), unlike say what role could Batiatus have really served beyond the initial revolt.

Normally, a prequel would get a from me. But, with Andy's current condition, I think this sounds like a great idea to keep the series going while he recovers.

Hopefully, it means we'll see the story of Batiatus, Doctore, and Crixus before Sparactus showed up.

And, great finale

Probably true, but I thought John Hannah was the best thing in this (HATED the pilot, but stuck with it and grew to love the show as the season progressed). From a storytelling perspective he needed to die, but I would have loved to see him around for next year. Who's left to say "Jupiter's cock"?

I do question whether Lucretia is supposed to be dead. She wasn't quite dead when the show ended which in theory leaves open the possibility.

I am very happy that Viva Bianca didn't get axed though. Hopefully, we'll get the second season as soon as they can.

We had made up a drinking game for Batiatus. Anytime he mentioned cock or sodomy, down one. That was a HUGE mistake.

I have an officemate who doesn't watch much TV at all, but I raved about this show to him, and he finally got all caught up, and now never misses an opportunity to drop in a few "By Jupiter's Cock!" in casual conversation. Hilariously so.
