Re: Mythbusters 2010 Season

I agree that Jessi wasn't a great replacement for Kari on Mythbusters, but Jessi did really know her stuff when it comes to cars. She used to co-host "Xtreme 4x4", and she was much more in her element on that show.

I didn't really mind Jessi. The over the top celebrating by Grant and Tory is the only thing that has been getting on my nerves

Re: Mythbusters 2010 Season

Here's the specifics on tonight's show:

Spoiler:
Jamie and Adam explore whether a cup of soda thrown from a car can kill, while Jessi, Tory and Grant see how long a good guy can hang by his fingertips.

Thanks for the post. I didn't realize this was going to be a new episode so I need to add it to the TiVo.

Her over the top antics were just as bad as those two.

Re: Mythbusters 2010 Season

I just saw the new episode recorded on my new TiVo HD XL box (I recorded it at 6:00 pm since it appears there's only one national HD feed).

It's just so spooky to almost clearly every strand of hair on Jamie Hyneman's beard on my 40" LCD panel.

Anyway, Savage and Hyneman was right--

Spoiler:
--throwing a near-full cup of slushy drink at a window in the way they did will severely crack the front window, but more likely cause of the subsequent accident was the driver being startled from the impact and the loss for forward visibility from the severely cracked glass.

Re: Mythbusters 2010 Season

Last night's show was a great example of how explosives and guns can ruin a segment. The show seems to think they are inherently entertaining and their mere presence will make a segment entertaining.

It was cool that they did a Burn Notice "myth", but even that was too by the numbers. A better approach would have been to look at the root of the "myth" and have them each try to come up with a better, dirt cheap bulletproofing method.

I haven't watched this show in a long time but I happened to catch last night's episode (at least the last half of it) and thought it was great, and I'm not into guns.

And when did they add that chick to the show? She's pretty cute.

Kari? (redhead) She's been on pretty much since the beginning. She started out as part of the build team and was a background player in the early seasons. Once the show got huge, the build team started getting their own myths to test.

or

Jessi? (blonde) - She came on for the last few episodes of last season while Kari was on maternity leave.

or

Was there a new chick? I haven't watched last night's episode yet.

I don't know - like I said, I haven't watched the show in years. I think she was a redhead (she was wearing a cap) and seems to be a gun enthusiast.

I can't believe people still watch this show. Do they still make up their own "myths"?

they don't make up myths, but rather try to show if something you've seen in real life is possible.

Re: Mythbusters 2010 Season

odd that they switched from an M1A (that the narrator called an M14) at the range to an M1 at the quarry

Re: Mythbusters 2010 Season

The myth was: Can you bullet proof a car with phone books?

They said it was from a "popular spy show" and added a few conditions 1. they limited themselves to a single layer of phone books and 2. they said the myth claimed it could stop all non-armor piercing firearms. Also, if you watched the ep of Burn Notice you may recall Micheal specifically said that purchasing bullet proof glass was an expense that you can't cheap out on, but for the show they just put phone books over the windows.

If you care to know the results:
Spoiler:
Using a single layer they were able to stop all handguns they tried, up to a .45, I believe, but failed to stop a deer slug or rifle round.

They then did some experimentation and figured 2.5 phone book layers would fulfill the non-armor piercing requirement and shot up the resulting build with bigger and bigger guns until they killed it with a .50 BMG shot to the engine.

And I can't believe people still threadcrap.

It's great to have Kari back. The chemistry between the build team is important, and Jessi just didn't bring anything to the show.
