Parenthood -- "Wassup" -- 03/23/10

Parenthood

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Adam and Kristina want to know who Haddie's dating. Elsewhere, Sarah tries to prepare herself for an important talk with Drew; Jabbar has an accident; Julia and Joel worry about leaving Sydney with Amber.

I'm 1 week behind on this show, but I like it alot.

There was an article I read a week or so ago that said you absolutely should not compare this show to Modern Family, which some of the promos made it out to be, and look for laugh out loud humor. Otherwise you will be disappointed. The 2 shows have pretty much zero similarity.

I think the show is starting to pick up. I actually watched it live last night when up until now it was a show I had to force myself to watch off the dvr before the next episode. I hope that they won't concentrate too much on Max anymore now that they've set up his back story.

I don't see why anyone would compare this to Modern Family. This show is a much lighter in tone Brothers & Sisters if it's anything. In fact I never saw a preview that made it seem like anything other a funny family drama, much like the original movie.

Re: Parenthood -- "Wassup" -- 03/23/10

I'm not sure if I want to continue with this show (I haven't watched this latest episode yet) - the previous episodes were so friggin' frustrating. As someone who has hoped to someday be a parent someday, since I was too young to even have that be a biological possibility, this show's depiction of being a parent has actually given me pause to reconsider. If kids are as annoying as these ones, and having them turns you into someone resembling these adult characters, I might have to do my part to combat overpopulation.

Like 30 Rock and Studio 60. The funny one didn't get canceled.

Erika Christensen gives me the serious hot.

It's a gun show and as long as it doesn't get too preachy I'm in.

I am really digging this show, mostly because Lauren Graham and Peter Krause are so fucking great. I really hope NBC gives this one time to grow because I think eventually people will find it and realize it's not some 'based on a movie' throwaway. It's definitely in the vein of Brothers & Sisters but I don't HATE these characters

My TiVo didn't record this episode for some reason, and I have no desire to go out of my way to watch it someplace else. Probably not a good sign.

Glad they took the focus off of Max for at least this episode. That was starting to be too much.

Really liking this show though.

Re: Parenthood -- "Wassup" -- 03/23/10

Now that Max and his Asperger's have been set up, the show is starting to focus on other characters and it's the better for it.

Adam saying "Wassup" to Steve reminded me of Phil on Modern Family trying to be hip with Haley's boyfriend.

For once, Julia wasn't made to feel like a shitty parent. I hope the writers don't continue to put her in situations where she is reminded that she isn't the "ideal" parent. Nice little scene between her and Crosby after she gets Jabbar's thumb out of the pop can.

How were Adam and Crosby not scarred by the talk from Zeek? That must have been embarrassing.

Why isn't Bonnie Bedelia given more to do?
Other than that, I am liking the show.

Liked the final scene with the episode title reveal. Solid episode overall.

Re: Parenthood -- "Wassup" -- 03/23/10

Very good episode.

I liked that it focused more on the other family members than Max. Haddie's secret boyfriend and the whole Facebook hacking thing was interesting. I was totally expecting the boyfriend to be black. I was surprised that Bonnie Bedelia was nowhere to be found in this episode.

Never have really seen anything with Dax Shepherd prior to this show, but I'm actually liking Crosby.

The final scene which referenced the episode title was funny and awkward. And yes, Peter Krause and Lauren Graham are really good in this show.

I really think this show is starting to find itself. I enjoyed this episode probably the best of the ones that have aired so far. Really enjoy Peter Krause and Lauren Graham, even Dax Shepherd is better than I thought he was going to be. I also like others am glad the emphasis was taken off Max this episode, because if they continue to make the show about him its going to get old fast in my opinion.

Except on Modern Family that was a sincere (failed) attempt to "be cool" with a teen. Here, it was tongue-in-cheek mocking with a bit of "I've got your number and I'm watching you" thrown in.

Crap, I'm pretty sure mine didn't record it either. If not I'll go find it.

It's on Hulu, so it's not going to be an effort to find.

Apparently they replayed it Saturday night, Tivo picked it up then.

I enjoyed this episode right up until the sappy ending. It was pathetically cheesy.

This show is really grownig on me, I didn't see the pilot but from the sounds of everyone here it was not all that great. I hope NBC gives it a chance to catch on.
