The food drops continued because Desmond was still pushing the button. When Locke stopped pushing it (exposing the island to the world), (I'm guessing) the drops will then stop because it was assumed to whomever was monitoring the island (Penny, etc...) that there were no more DHARMA employees to feed or supply since Desmond was the only one left - at the Swan station.

It was absolutely the wave that took down the statue. The Black Rock just rode right through as it broke apart and surfed to the middle of the island. The tsunami was as tall as the statue. They showed the POV going right toward the head of it.

Yeah, I thought that was a no-brainer, even for Lost. I'm usually at the head of the line for errors or stupid shit, but that seemed pretty self-explanatory.

I did notice that the Black Rock crashed on the island the same year dynamite was patented, 1867, thus explaining the dynamite on the ship. Many assumed the 1845 date given in S4 was the year it actually came to the island.

The whole "reveal" of the ship they did at the end of that scene with a big swell of music is only "cool" if that ship is the Black Rock. Because it, as far as old ships go, is the only one involved with the TV show LOST. So revealing it does two things: dates that scene in a neat way and promises some semblance of an explanation in the next season about a story that needs some explanation.
"It was a different ship" is so stupid I don't even know what to think. The simpler (and more believable) explanation is that the writers didn't know the Black Rock would be on a tsunami wave taking out the statue in Season 6 when they wrote the scene in Season 5. Which would be par for the course with LOST these days.

Just re-watched the episode and have been thinking about a few things. First they made it pretty clear that the Black Rock took out the statue with the sound effects, not to mention MiB said that the ship took it out. I'm with everyone else on the insta-storm though, very confusing.
Second, Nestor Carbonell needs to be nominated for an Emmy. Amazing work.

From what I can gather is that isn't the question. The questions are whether a wooden ship could take out the stone statue (others think the wave did it) and whether or not we saw the Black Rock heading towards the beach in the S5 finale since it was a bright and sunny day.

The Black Rock coming in on a clear day and then crashing at night in a violent storm is just silly. Unless they want us to believe that those on the island could see them but they couldn't see the island until the passed through the "portal". I'm referring to the area that Faraday told them that the helicopter had to go through to make it back to the freighter. This is the only explanation that would be understable on why the ship crew didn't see the island until it was too late. Now, that doesn't explain how the homebrewed storm happened so quickly.

I don't think that the writers would mess up on something like forgetting that in the season finale of season 5, that is was a nice day out when we see the ship, and then 8 episodes into season 6, that it was a horrible storm when we see it arrive. It seems blatantly in our faces concerning the difference in weather. Desmond was in a horrible storm as well when he was brought to the island.

Not really. It served to establish an approximate time period for the conversation between Jacob and Mib (as in "a long time ago"). Plus it indicated that Jacob has brought people to the island before and the results are always the same, at least according to MiB.

Maybe when we saw the ship in season 5, it was the first time the Black Rock had headed for the island and then this season they went back for reinforcements for their second trip. maybe?
