Castle -- "Tick, Tick, Tick..." -- 03/22/10

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Beckett and Castle work with a skilled federal agent (Dana Delany) to track down a clever serial killer.

Special 2 Part episode with Dana Delany from Desperate Housewives as Special Guest Star. If you didn't already know Delany and Fillion played husband and wife on Housewives 2 seasons ago.

The whole lead-in thing IMO is so overrated because it's just the dumb Nielsen viewers who forget to change the channel. But, Castle has the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars as it's lead-in, so it's numbers should be really good.

Apparently noone in this forum remembered there was a new episode on March 8th while I was away.

I've never even seen a second of "Castle" before tonight. Found myself flipping through channels before stopping at Pamela dancing. Stuck around for Castle out of boredom (and because I'm a sucker for serial killer stories). I've never been a big fan of the CSI's, Criminal Minds, etc., etc., but I found a lot I liked. I just may see what the show is all about now.

I loved this episode. Bryan Spicer is a fantastic director. The writing by Moira Kirland was top notch. The cast was also firing on all cylinders.

Dana was looking rough during her first few scenes but looked better as the episode continued.

Castle tends to make use of CSI trademarks and then mock them, especially when it first started. You would hear about references to cops with sunglasses (being Castle's direct competition) and mocking the use of 'porn music' used in the forensic testing scenes.

I call Castle my Monday night "good time", because it's so enjoyable and fun but can be touching without being overwrought about it.

I hate all those other shows. Castle is top notch. The book Heat Wave was surprisingly awesome, too.

A strong lead-in can bring new viewers to a show. Most of the shows I watch came from my viewing of other shows. I mean I can trace my entire viewing of the USA Network to watching Monday Night Raw. Watching Raw got me interested in Psych before it premiered, and it also lead to me watching pretty much all of their original shows since Raw came back to USA. When Raw was on TNN/Spike TV, I never watched USA.

I can trace a lot of my NBC viewing back to watching a show called Committed back in '04. That's how I became a fan of Scrubs, and even though the show was canceled, it was replaced in the time slot by the debut of The Office.

Of course, those so called "dumb Nielsen viewers" are also the ones who end up watching the commercials that pay for the shows we watch (and that in turn those of us without Nielsen boxes can skip said commercials).

Hope Beckett had enough time to run dive back into her tub before the explosion. Loved how they didnt give her outcome during the previews for next week.

Agreed. Unlike this episode where they showed in the preview her apartment was going to blow up with Castle yelling to her over his phone. So it wasn't a matter of it being surprising but wondering when it would happen.

You certainly tuned in for the best episode of the series so far!

Agreed. I always enjoy this show, but last night was just awesome.

Really? The wrinkles above the corners of her lips were horrendous. She should have brought her make-up artist from Wysteria Lane!

The show keeps getting better and better - love it!

For the first time, Castle beats CSI: Caruso's Sunglasses in the ratings. Castle had 12.9 million viewers/3.6m in the 18-49 group, while CSI had a 10.7/3.2 rating.

Best thing about the previews was the uncertainty of the outcome.

Do any of us really think she won't make it? Nice to see that the network did not spoil the conclusion.

No, I doubt the love of Castle's life is at risk, and more than Lois Lane is at risk in a Superman show.

The one thing the new Friday the 13th movie did well was have two "final girls" for a while, so that you didn't know who would actually make it - that added suspense that isn't usually there when a show's star is in peril. Like Star Wars' blend of fantasy and science fiction, I wonder why more shows don't use this technique. Imagine if Castle's daughter were visiting Beckett when the bomb went off? Or his mother?

I'd say if the mother was there, I'd think they might kill her. The daughter, no way.

Funny you mention the mother dying; I don't watch the previews week-to-week, so I had no clue that explosion was coming. Given the nice 'goodbye' they gave the mother this week, I was half expecting Castle to run all the way to Beckett's only to have the killer show up at HIS place instead.

Or the man Castle's mom moving in with turns out to be the killer.

Just watched it. Probably the best ep so far. I tend to hate most procedurals (except for the ones starring ex-cast members from Buffy) but this show always brings a smile to my face like the "pancakes" discussion.

Or maybe it's my total man-crush on Mal.

Awesome episode, I can't wait for the second part.

"there's an app for that?" was a hilarious line after the fingerprint scanner made an appearance.
