George Lopez fat? Maybe by BMI standards, but look at the size of that head, he could add a few pounds and still look proportional.

people think the wife on according to jim is hot? that bitch is fugly. the sister is hot though and the fat brother is always getting hot women.
i think the still standing husband wife is a little believable since the wife is white trash just like the husband.

At least on the Simpsons there are many people that question why they are together in the first place. I can't think of any other show where that was the case. Well, maybe Arrested Development with Tobias (even though his "issue" wasn't weight).
That whole "women are more apt to choose funny over looks" thing may contribute, but not in the direct way. I'd think guy viewers are a bit more shallow and will watch a lackluster comedy if there's even a little bit of eye candy (see posters in this thread for examples). You rarely see the reverse, with the overweight comedian wife and the handsome husband.
