Smallville -- "Persuasion" -- 02/19/10

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Clark is unwittingly infected with wish-fulfilling Kryptonite on Valentine's Day. When he tells Lois he wishes they had a more conventional relationship, she moves in with him and begins to plan their nuptials. And Clark has a wish for Chloe as well: to better protect him. She responds by targeting Lois.

This episode looks goofy, but I love Lois and Clark themed episodes, so I will take it for what it is.

An interesting note to pass along. Geoff Johns, who wrote Absolute Justice from a few weeks ago, was named the new creative director at DC Comics.

They probably don't want to exhaust their show budget especially after Absolute Justice, so they have to do a goofy filler episode like this.

I hate Kryptonite themed episodes but this looks hilarious.

Huh. Surprised by this episode. The Kryptonite stuff was goofy, but the Zod/Clark storyline took a good step forward. And that Tess/Chloe fight was awesome.

Not bad at all .....

I loved this episode. The Lois story was really a sly bit of misdirection. Much like the similarly themed episode of Supernatural, it presented itself as filler and then sucker-punched us with an arc-centric storyline.

Loved the Chloe/Tess fight, Clark blowing up the tower (how quickly did they build that massive thing and was anyone inside when it went boom?), and Lois doing her love dance. rotfl

Glad I read this thread because I stopped watching after the open and didn't plan on picking it back up.

The first 30-35 minutes were pretty bad but it really did pick up for the second half.

Yeah, I was just going to post that I'm 30 minutes in and it's absolutely horrible.

Ring of fire!

Clark takes down the towers!

Wow.

that second half was amazing.

Yeah the last 25 minutes or so were bad ass. The the heat vision effects and I loved the ring of fire although I'm not sure why she just didn't step over the small fire.

I just wonder why Clark didn't question the fact that Chloe carries a chunk of Kryptonite with her 24/7? And why so much when the smallest bit screws him up so royally in this show?

The catfight was well done.

FINALLY Clark does what has to be done, it was not too bright letting towers that will help enslave the human race be built, I was surprised they had Clark FINALLY do something.

With as many times as Clark goes crazy or something takes him over, I would to, they have had to do this several times over the last few years, it is a smart move just in case.

I get why she had it. I'm just surprised Clark didn't question her about it. After all, despite her stopping him from going over the edge, he's never passed up the chance to question her methods. And a more than lethal amount of Kryptonite is pretty extreme. I'd understand a ring like Luthor wore in the comics instead. Size-wise anyway.

And Batman having plenty makes sense since the Clark he knows isn't affected as strongly as this Clark is by just a sliver of the stuff.

I've never seen Clark be so harsh to Chloe as he was in this episode.

I'm more curious about how she found and got to them so fast

could have done without the whole Lois plot, but the rest was decent

I thought Clark just took Tess outside and none too far. Anyone taped the episode and can confirm?

Ranger 02-20-10 11:42 PM

Re: Smallville -- "Persuasion" -- 02/19/10

I believe Chloe and Tess were fighting, and when it looked like Tess was the winner, Clark took her into his ring of fire for a chat so that gave Chloe some time to get the emergency kit.

I guess they could not get the rights to the Chris Brown song.

Pretty good episode. While I'm glad the season long arc appears to be coming back into focus I couldn't help but be a little disappointed. I had managed to catch a promo - usually I don't these days - but I was actually really looking forward to the Clark/Lois centric episode. Certainly that element was present, but I think it was Clark acting weird more than anything. There was a little advancement at the end, but it seemed similar in tone to the end of Warrior as well. I wonder what order these were all supposed to air in - especially with this being a Valentine centric episode.

Wonder where Zod goes from here??
