I wonder if Martin Short stopped to look at himself on the TV screens because he caught a glimpse of how freakish he looks up close.
Pretty good episode.
I wonder who Patt was yelling at on the phone in the end? Ellen?

I don't know what that was with Patty. They want you to think she had a hit out on Tom. I also didn't understand what that was with Joe and 'if he drinks one more time' thing? Can anyone explain. It looked like they hired someone to take him out.

I took it as she put a hit out on him, had a change of heart and whoever it was did it anyway.
The Martin Short/TV monitor thing was... yeah, I dunno.

Another excellent ep!!
Absolutely loved the dramatics/suspenseful build-up regarding Father Tobin and associates keeping an eye on Joe's alcoholism --To drink, or not to drink
My exact thought with that phone call.
The juxtaposition of Patty lying thru her teeth about how Michael's girlfriend was 'lovely' followed by that '5 Months Later' interrogation scene had me thinking Patty might have something to do with Tom's demise.
...or the writers could be going in a completely different direction...
Just watched the 2nd airing - someone correct me if I have any of this wrong:
Knowing his son has battled alcoholism in the past, Father Tobin wanted to make sure Joe was stable enough to handle the hidden Tobin fortune without spilling the beans. Using surveillance, family lawyer Ed Grimley told Father Tobin that Joe started drinking again. With no stable blood relative to be in charge of the fortune (wife too old, daughter a mess according to Patty Hewes from the deposition), and after the phone call with Patty in which she told him to repent, Father Tobin decides to commit suicide and leaves a mysterious packet addressed to Patty.
Alas, it seems Joe has a change of heart and decides to see his father with the possibility of going along with the plan of handling the tucked away funds -- arrives too late to talk to dad.
But what will he do with that information in that envelope?
can't wait for next week!

I haven't posted in the previous threads, so I'll also mention that it's nice seeing Madchen Amick and Sarah Wynter popping up in the last few eps. Amick doesn't look like she's aged much at all since here Twin Peaks days.

Much better than Season 2. And I'm actually not that dismayed about having to wait a week between airings.
When Martin Short made the monkey face during that intense scene I was shocked and tickled at the same time. That little move right there spoke volumes about what type of person he really is.
Interesting that Papa Tobin offed himself. Where can that story go from here?
Why did you have to go and bring that up?
I hate that kid and his storyline with a passion. That actor is just not up to task either.

I love the older detective. I could really see a spin off with him as the lead with maybe an open structure like they used in Columbo. I think that could be a really successful procedural.

I was hoping he would be absent from this season, but I guess not. I see the trust parallel between the Tobins and Patty and her son, but the show would be better off without him.

I watched this with a friend (huge mistake) and was a little distracted, but can anyone point out when the title line was said in the episode? I think this might be the first episode I've seen where I didn't immediately pick it out.
